TREXLERTOWN, Pa. \u2013 For many of the international Olympians and superstars in this sport, who have called T-town home the last few weeks, the Saturday night was their last action at the Valley Preferred Cycling Center this year.<\/p>\n
A few riders went out in style, especially the Canadians.<\/p>\n
Monique Sullivan of Canada, who has had a tremendous amount of success these last three weeks at VPCC, capped off her stay with a tight victory in the women’s UCI Keirin championship ride. Sullivan just edged teammate Kate O’Brien and Mandy Marquardt as it was three-wide down the home straight.<\/p>\n
Hugo Barrette of Canada withstood a strong push from Lenardo Botasso of Argentina and Matt Baranoski of Perkasie, Pennsylvania, to win valuable UCI points in the men’s keirin 1-6 final ride.<\/p>\n
The last UCI points earned at VPCC this season were awarded to Lauren Ellis who won the final sprint of the race, which broke a three-way tie at first place. Ellis, Rushlee Buchanan, and Holly Edmondston, all of whom are from New Zealand, all finished with 13 points.<\/p>\n
However, the night was also about the Spring 2016 Red Robin Marty Nothstein Bicycle Racing League All-Stars as they competed. Lourdes Garcia, Ian Siglag, Homare Yamashita, Zac Olszewski, Jacob Evans, and Anson Wright, all were victorious in the BRL events.<\/p>\n
It was T-town staple Christian Grasmann who won the men’s 60 lap points race as he scored points early and often, totaling 36. Steven Van Heerden finished second with 26.<\/p>\n
Buchanan continued her recent string of victories with a triumph in the women’s 3km final, Lauren Ellis won the women’s miss-n-out, and Luke Mudgway of New Zealand won both the men’s 5 mile final and the men’s 12 lap preme race to finish the evening.<\/p>\n
Mudgway won the men’s omnium with 14 points and Ellis won the women’s omnium with 19 point<\/p>\n
The World Series of Bicycling returns next week with its first night without any UCI events this season. On June 24 is the Mike Walter Madison\/U.S. Women’s Open, two great events put together in one night. Also, it is German Night in T-town with plenty of Oktoberfest fun on tap. Gates open at 6 p.m. With racing getting underway at 7:30 p.m.<\/p>\n
