The 40th<\/sup> annual Heritage Day was held in Easton on July 10th<\/sup>.\u00a0 The free full-day festival showcased local history, activities for kids and concluded with a fireworks display over the Delaware River. Heritage Day celebrates Easton\u2019s historic significance. At noon on July 8, 1776, Easton was one of three places where the Declaration of Independence had its first public reading. It was read on the steps of the old courthouse in Easton\u2019s historic Centre Square by the Chair of the Committee of Safety, Robert Levers. A reenactment of that event first occurred during the Bicentennial Celebration in 1976. Ever since Easton has had its own Independence Day celebration which is now know as Heritage Day.<\/p>\n
