November 29 is \u201cSmall Business Saturday\u201d in the city of Allentown as proclaimed by Mayor Ed Pawlowski.<\/p>\n
Falling between Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Small Business Saturday is a day to celebrate and support the small independently-owned businesses that help boost local economies across the country.<\/p>\n
Small Business Saturday was created in 2010 in response to small business owners\u2019 most pressing need: more demand for their products and services. Since its inception, Small Business Saturday has served as the ceremonial kickoff to the busy holiday shopping season for small, independently-owned businesses. In 2013, millions of consumers shopped at independently-owned small business spending $5.7 billion on the day \u2013 up from $5.5 billion in 2012.<\/p>\n
\u201cSmall Business Saturday is a day to celebrate and support the small businesses that are the backbone of our center cities and municipalities and all they do for our communities. The money that you spend at a small business goes right back into the local economy,\u201d said Pawlowski. \u201cAnd that\u2019s important, because statistics show that half of working Americans either own or work for a small business, and small businesses create two out of every three new jobs.\u201d<\/p>\n
More than 1,400 communities across America are participating in events on Saturday, November 29 to recognize the contribution local businesses make to create jobs, boost local economies and preserve neighborhoods.<\/p>\n
