Written in the tradition of Jan Karon\u2019s beloved <em>Mitford<\/em> series, <em>Easton at the Forks<\/em> is a heart-warming story featuring two characters two centuries apart in the winsome city that has been undergoing a resurgence in recent years. Publication of the novel promises to push Easton\u2019s renown beyond the Keystone State toward more national exposure.<\/p>\n<p>According to Mayor Sal Panto, \u201cIn her book, <em>Easton at the Forks,<\/em> Rebecca Price Janney captures a story that is both historical and entertaining as her main character, Erin, strives to learn everything about her ancestral family lineage. Rebecca takes you from the present quest to search the family tree back to the 18th century with actual happenings of Erin\u2019s ancestor\u2019s role in the establishment of this great country we call America. The book is thoroughly enjoyable reading and presents an interesting format between then and now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Easton is a charming city at the forks of Delaware and Lehigh Rivers, a place author Janney\u2019s family has known as \u201chome\u201d since the city\u2019s founding in 1752.<\/p>\n<p>In <em>Easton at the Forks<\/em>, both Peter Kichline and Erin Miles are trying to make sense of life after losing their spouses.\u00a0 As Sheriff of Northampton County, Pennsylvania, he\u2019s on the trail of an elusive thief, finding that challenge much easier to deal with than running a household, although several Easton ladies are more than a little willing to help\u2014which poses its own challenges.<\/p>\n<p>Erin doesn\u2019t have her work to turn anymore to after being denied a promotion she counted on, nor has she been close to her family since leaving Easton after college. When she stumbles upon a TV show about ancestry, Erin\u2019s inspired to search her own mysterious roots. She first began writing professionally at the age of 14 and by the next year she was covering the Philadelphia Phillies for a local newspaper. Throughout high school she covered other professional sports as well as politics\u2014which she also considers a kind of contact sport\u2014and had her first magazine article published in <em>Seventeen<\/em> during her senior year of high school, the same year <em>Seventeen <\/em>and the Columbia Scholastic Press Association named her a runner-up in their teen-of-the-year contest. A lifelong history buff, she majored in that subject at Lafayette College and Princeton Seminary, then earned her doctorate, focusing on the role of women in American society throughout the centuries, from Biblical Seminary. She\u2019s taught history at several Philadelphia area colleges and universities.<\/p>\n<p>Rebecca, who\u2019s earned many writing awards and written hundreds of articles for newspapers and magazines, had her first book published in the mid-90s. <em>Easton at the Forks<\/em> is her first novel for an adult audience. A member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, she is a popular speaker at DAR venues, civic organizations, historical societies, schools, libraries, churches, and synagogues, and has promoted her books on TV and radio.
