Linda Terrick has a unique business story: A \u2018Thrifty\u2019 Lesson in Entrepreneurship<\/strong><\/p>\n

She\u2019s opening Liberty\u2019s New To You Thrift Shop and becoming a business owner to get herself off of public assistance, provide for her family, and teach other people how to do the same.<\/p>\n

By sharing everything about her experiences in funding and preparing to launch the business:<\/p>\n

For example, her business plan, expenses, and challenges along the way. Including, <\/span><\/span>behind the<\/a>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span>scenes <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a>of her online crowdfunding platform of choice — Kickstarter<\/a>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

It\u2019s all part of her passion to help the community by providing quality clothing and inspiring people to be self reliant through collaborative effort.<\/p>\n

Linda\u2019s business journey began in yard sales where she amassed a following of customers. Her skill in collecting free materials from students on campus and other sources led her to create a solid business that operated mostly on weekends.<\/p>\n

Though she didn\u2019t leave things up to chance. Instead of trying the \u201cbuild it and they will come\u201d approach, Linda attracted customers by blanketing neighborhoods in the Lehigh University campus with flyers and by meeting people at yard sales, flea markets, and any other venue where she displayed a large inventory of clothing and household items.<\/p>\n

Eventually, people suggested she should open a thrift shop.<\/p>\n

What makes Linda’s <\/span><\/span>Kickstarter campaign <\/span><\/span><\/span>also so unique is that it will be the first to feature a single\u00a0<\/span><\/span>level of contribution at $5. Every existing campaign to date by other people has been listed at multiple levels of contributions ranging from as low as $1 to upward of thousands of dollars.<\/p>\n

Making the reward a learning experience that helps others is part of Linda\u2019s strategy to give people outside of the Lehigh Valley a good reason to contribute and help spread the word.<\/p>\n

Following the philosophy of not leaving things to chance, Linda is going out wee early at midnight after Thanksgiving dinner to engage with people who are in long lines for Black Friday sales.<\/p>\n

\u201c<\/span>This is what it takes to have a successful business,\u201d Linda says. \u201cYou can\u2019t leave it up to chance.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

No matter how excited people seem or how successful you think your venture might be, you have to work every opportunity for the best chance at achieving success.\u201d<\/p>\n

In that vein, Linda has launched a Thunderclap campaign to help boost her chances. If Linda gets 100 people to pledge their voice, Thunderclap will send out a huge social media blast sharing her campaign. She\u2019ll speak to people standing in line for Black Friday for that as well.<\/p>\n
