But the artist in me also needed to do something, so over the next 25 days, while I was on Amelia Island, in Florida, I committed to rise each day long before dawn, walk 7 miles on the beach and while walking, take and post on Facebook 49 photos of the sunrise. Each photo, that may bring hope and would at least show us beauty in the world, was dedicated to a victim of the massacre, with that person’s name… because names are important to help us remember.”

Each framed and matted photograph is accompanied by a brief remembrance of one of the victims and an artist statement. Bradbury received her Master of Fine Arts from Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Indiana and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Maryland Institute of Art. She was a tenured fine art faculty member at SUNY Jamestown and director of the Jamestown Artisan Center. She previously created the national award-winning photo project, Same-Sex Couples: Facing Inequality, which was displayed in art galleries, universities, and the Pennsylvania State Capital in the years preceding marriage equality in Pennsylvania

Adrian Shanker, Executive Director of Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center, commented, “With this exhibit of Liz’s moving photographs, our community can continue to mourn the victims, heal our communal wounds, and remember that more work is needed for the LGBT community to be free from violence.”

Information Provided By:
Adrian Shanker, Executive Director
Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center

… Click here to read more...
"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false
[69,482
29,2955,963
post-19451","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-in-the-valley","category-press-release-2","tag-allentown","tag-bradbury-sullivan-lgbt-community-center","tag-pa
