font-family: Cambria;\">The Sands Event Center rocked Friday night with the return of opening band, Night Ranger, followed by Rick Springfield to a full house.<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Cambria;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Cambria;\">Night Ranger always is fun to watch their high energy which covers every corner of the stage.\u00a0 These guys are always having a good time as they performed their classic hits, \u00a0\u201cSister Christian\u201d, \u201cWhen You Close Your Eyes\u201d, \u201cSing Me Away\u201d, \u201cDon\u2019t Tell Me You Love Me\u201d, and \u201cRock in America.\u201d<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Cambria;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Cambria;\">For this reporter, the roots run deep with the history of Rick Springfield.\u00a0 Back in the early seventies, he appeared almost out of no where on the American scene.\u00a0 He arrived just in time to rival another shagged hair teenybopper sensation, David Cassidy, of The Partridge Family fame.\u00a0 A well established musician in his home country of Australia, Springfield entertained on the Saturday morning cartoon, \u201cMission:\u00a0 Magic.\u201d\u00a0 Almost a decade later he emerged as Dr. Noah Drake on the popular General Hospital soap opera, and then release of his hit single, \u201cJessie\u2019s Girl\u201d sent his musical career into rock and roll orbit.<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Cambria;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Cambria;\">With several dozen roses placed around Springfield\u2019s microphone stand, the show started with \u201cLight This Party Up\u201d followed by \u201cI Get Excited\u201d, in which the first dozen roses were shredded into Springfield\u2019s guitar, which created a colorful display of rose petals confetti.<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Cambria;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Cambria;\">Before Springfield started \u201cAffair of the Heart\u201d, he informed the crowd his birthday was 4 days away, and the crowd returned their love by singing a full round of Happy Birthday.\u00a0 While the high kicks may have disappeared for this almost 67 year old rocker, his unrelentless energy and movement covered the full stage, often dashing from one corner to the other.<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Cambria;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Cambria;\">For Springfield, who has just released his 18<\/span><sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Cambria; font-size: small;\">th<\/span><\/sup><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Cambria;\"> album,\u00a0 \u201cRocket Science\u201d, finding the right balance of songs that span his career may seem daunting, and the solution resulted in a mash up of favorites:\u00a0 \u201cBop Til You Drop\u201d, \u201cCelebrate Youth\u201d, \u201cCalling All Girls\u201d, a very brief snippet of \u201cJessie\u2019s Girl\u201d, \u201cDon\u2019t Walk Away\u201d, \u201cState of the Heart\u201d, and \u201cWhat Kind of Fool Am I\u201d.<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Cambria;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Cambria;\">Springfield also threw in some cover songs, \u00a0Katy Perry\u2019s hit, \u201cRoar\u201d, and Taylor Swift\u2019s \u201cShake it Off\u201d, and the classic, \u201cWipeout\u201d.\u00a0 While these songs may express the pop side to Springfield, unmistakabilty they were given a new life with a metal edge.\u00a0 \u201cMiss Mayhem\u201d,\u00a0 was performed with\u00a0 a scratchy blues sound,\u00a0 as he often displayed full arm pendulum swings on guitar.<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Cambria;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Cambria;\">Springfield later walked down into the front of the crowd for \u201cDon\u2019t Talk to Strangers\u201d, \u201cSylvia\u201d, and \u201cHuman Touch\u201d.\u00a0 For these songs recorded over thirty years ago, they\u2019ve been reincarnated with faster and sharper punches on the drums, along with a techno sound.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Cambria;\">The crowd created an over the head hand clapping in unison for \u201cLove Somebody\u201d, as Springfield\u2019s vocals cut through the band crystal clear.\u00a0 Closing the set, was everyone\u2019s favorite, \u201cJessie\u2019s Girl\u201d, now with harder guitar lines added, and the encore, \u201cKristina\u201d with more pulsating drum beats.<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Cambria;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Cambria;\">While time may age us all, Springfield\u2019s ability to rock remain intact, it remains clear that he is having the time of his life.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Cambria;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Cambria;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Cambria;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;
