Armstrong: Voters Deserve to Hear from the Candidates, Mako\u2019s Debate Dodges Disrespectful to Voters<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Phillips Armstrong, the President of the Whitehall Township Board of Commissioners and candidate for State Representative in the PA 183rd district, has made himself available to debate his opponent, Mr. Mako, in three public forums since the primary.<\/p>\n

These venues include a public forum organized by the Chamber of Commerce in Whitehall scheduled for October 5th and cancelled by Mako. Mr. Mako also declined the opportunity to attend a candidate forum arranged by PBS 39 the week of September 13th and has so far refused to reschedule the forum which is open to all Lehigh Valley candidates for the state legislature. Mr. Mako has yet to respond to the Northampton and Lehigh County League of Women Voters invitation (attached).<\/p>\n

Armstrong has reached out to the Northampton County League of Women Voters President and made his availability clear for anytime between now and November 8th. \u201cThe public deserves the chance to make an educated decision about who will best represent them in Harrisburg for the next two years. They have the right to examine candidate qualifications and the candidates\u2019 abilities to find solutions to the problems faced by the people of the district.\u201d Phillips Armstrong strongly believes in public accountability and transparency, and finds it disrespectful and contemptuous of the voters to refuse to debate on the issues and trusts the voters to make the best decision in choosing their next State Representative.<\/p>\n

Phillips Armstrong is a retired Social Studies teacher of 40 years at Whitehall-Coplay High School, a hall of fame coach and the current President of the Whitehall Board of Commissioners. He was unanimously appointed to the board in 2014 and then reelected in 2015 as the top vote- getter.\u00a0 After the election, Phillips Armstrong received the unanimous bipartisan vote to become<\/p>\n

the President of board.\u00a0 Mr. Armstrong is currently running for State Representative of the 183rd<\/p>\n

District which includes Slatington, Northampton, and North Catasauqua boroughs, Washington, Whitehall, Lehigh, and Allen Townships as well as parts of South Whitehall and Moore Townships.
