{"id":25904,"date":"2017-01-05T16:05:38","date_gmt":"2017-01-05T21:05:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/?p=25904"},"modified":"2017-01-05T16:05:38","modified_gmt":"2017-01-05T21:05:38","slug":"allentown-school-district-host-second-parent-university","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/?p=25904","title":{"rendered":"Allentown School District to Host Second Parent University"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Allentown, PA (January 5, 2017):<\/strong> \u00a0On Saturday, January 21, the Allentown School District will host its second Free<\/p>\n<p><em>ASD Parent University Workshops<\/em> as well as the District\u2019s <em>Annual Title I Advisory Council\/Parent Meeting<\/em>. The event is open to all Allentown School District parents, guardians and families, and includes complimentary breakfast and lunch, as well as Free child care services for children 3 \u2013 10.<\/p>\n<p>It will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Building 21 Allentown High School, 265 Lehigh Street, Allentown. The snow date is Saturday, January 28.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Registration and breakfast will be held from 8:30 a.m. \u2013 9:15 a.m., followed by the <em>Title I Annual<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Parent Meeting <\/em>and the beginning of the workshop sessions. This year\u2019s annual Title I Parent Meeting will focus on the impact of parental involvement in a child\u2019s education as it relates to Pennsylvania\u2019s School Performance Profile (SPP) for evaluating schools and the State\u2019s high priority on Parent &amp; Family Engagement.<\/p>\n<p>Eight individual workshops will offer parents\/guardians an opportunity to gain a better understanding of their students\u2019 academic progress. Participants are able to attend 4 workshops of their choosing during the event. At the end of each session, presenters will have time for questions and answers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Spring session topics offered will include:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Attendance Policy<\/li>\n<li>College Readiness-PHEAA<\/li>\n<li>English Language Learners (ELL\/ESOL)<\/li>\n<li>Health Overview-Dental Health<\/li>\n<li>Keystones &amp; PSSA\u2019s<\/li>\n<li>Student Success<\/li>\n<li>Suicide Prevention Education for Parents\/Guardians<\/li>\n<li>Title 1 Annual Parent Meeting &amp; Tutoring<\/li>\n<li>Understanding the IEP\/GIEP<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The event will also offer information stations featuring community resources, ASD Community Portal registration, and tours of the Lehigh Valley Health Network (Miles of Smiles) dental van.<\/p>\n<p>For questions about the Title I Parent University, contact Karim Brown, ASD District Parent Liaison at brownk@allentownsd.org or by calling 484-765-4079.<\/p>\n<p><strong>About Allentown School District<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>ASD serves more than 16,000 students in a network of 22 early childhood, elementary, middle and high schools located throughout the City of Allentown, PA.
