ALLENTOWN, PA —\u00a0The Fine Art Galleries at Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center will exhibit four panels of The AIDS Memorial Quilt beginning February 9th<\/span><\/span> and concluding March 6, 2017<\/span><\/span>. The exhibit is presented in partnership with AIDS Fund and The NAMES Memorial Project.<\/span><\/p>\n

There will be an opening reception on\u00a0February 9th<\/span><\/span> from 6-8pm<\/span><\/span>.<\/b>\u00a0The reception is sponsored by Wards Oriental Rug Service, Wegmans, Pheobe Floral & Home Decor, Express Business Center, and The Law Offices of Robin J. Gray.<\/span><\/p>\n

The AIDS Memorial Quilt is the largest ongoing community art project in the world and was conceived of in 1985 by San Francisco gay rights activist Cleve Jones, partner of Harvey Milk. Today, more than 48,000 panels have been created by friends and family members of people who died of AIDS.<\/p>\n

The exhibit at Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center mostly includes memorial quilts made by Lehigh Valley families. Notably, Keith Haring’s quilt is included in this exhibit. Beth Kilker, whose family made one of the quilts that will be on display, will speak at the opening reception about the process they went through to make the quilt.<\/p>\n

Kilker stated: “The process of participating and making a quilt as part of The AIDS Memorial Quilt is a reminder that life is sweet in spite of the misery. My family and I are really glad The AIDS Memorial Quilt is on display at Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center.”<\/p>\n
