{"id":29720,"date":"2017-03-29T23:15:46","date_gmt":"2017-03-30T03:15:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/?p=29720"},"modified":"2017-03-29T23:15:46","modified_gmt":"2017-03-30T03:15:46","slug":"allentown-police-department-utilizing-tip-app","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/?p=29720","title":{"rendered":"ALLENTOWN POLICE DEPARTMENT UTILIZING TIP APP"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Allentown Police Department is increasing its crime-fighting capability with a new app to help citizens connect with the department to find information, view alerts, and submit anonymous tips from their smartphone.<\/p>\n<p>Mayor Ed Pawlowski and Police Chief Keith Morris unveiled the app at a late morning news conference today in City Council Chambers.<\/p>\n<p>Developed by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tip411.com\/\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?hl=en&amp;q=http:\/\/www.tip411.com&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1490928846751000&amp;usg=AFQjCNHsYhj7M0N5uc56AMUKDAcDqDBW_Q\"><u>tip411<\/u><\/a>, the <strong>Allentown PD app <\/strong>puts a powerful new crime-fighting tool into the hands of residents.<strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>The <strong>Allentown PD app <\/strong>is available for download for free via the <a href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=com.citizenobserver.allentownpd\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?hl=en&amp;q=https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id%3Dcom.citizenobserver.allentownpd&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1490928846751000&amp;usg=AFQjCNEyEtnr-C9RFZt0Rs1uCe7c7T0YxA\"><u> Google Play Store,<\/u><\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/us\/app\/allentown-pd\/id1210393604?ls=1&amp;mt=8\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?hl=en&amp;q=https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/us\/app\/allentown-pd\/id1210393604?ls%3D1%26mt%3D8&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1490928846751000&amp;usg=AFQjCNFPV4acjdPNk-BzSpMj3MwarU1REg\"><u> iTunes App Store<\/u><\/a>, or by visiting the Allentown Police Department website at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.allentownpa.gov\/Police\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?hl=en&amp;q=http:\/\/www.allentownpa.gov\/Police&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1490928846751000&amp;usg=AFQjCNGXkJJfASmM0UtaoaGp9Ym_qPpaOw\"><u> http:\/\/www.allentownpa.gov\/<\/u>Police<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Pawlowski said, \u201cThis is the easiest method yet for our residents to send the department an anonymous tip about possible criminal activity in their neighborhoods.\u00a0 They can also receive alerts from the department on their phones.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe mission of the Allentown Police Department is to reduce crime and enhance the safety of our residents and visitors,\u201d said Chief Morris.\u00a0 \u201cWe do this through collaboration with our diverse community, and believe tip411 will help us to better engage our stakeholders in making Allentown a safer and more welcoming place for all.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Morris said it is important to note that the app is not a substitute for 911 and should not be used to report a crime in progress.<\/p>\n<p>Like the department\u2019s existing tip411 anonymous text a tip system, the new <strong>Allentown PD app <\/strong>enables the public to share an anonymous tip with police and lets officers respond back to create an anonymous two-way conversation.\u00a0 The app is monitored frequently, but is not monitored 24\/7 and tipsters should not anticipate an immediate reply.<\/p>\n<p>Downloading the app on an i-Phone is as simple as searching Allentown Tip and hitting Get and Install.\u00a0 Users can indicate if they want to be notified of Alerts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve listened to feedback from partners like Allentown and have built a more advanced and innovative product to help departments better engage their communities,\u201d said tip411 President Terry Halsch.\u00a0 \u201cThe Allentown PD app powered by tip411Mobile will greatly improve the public\u2019s access to agency alerts, social media channels, important information, and more to help fight crime.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>Allentown PD app <\/strong>and tip411 anonymous text a tip system that was established in 2012 are 100% anonymous.
