Volunteers from across the city are urged to sign-up now to participate in Mayor Ed Pawlowski\u2019s 11TH<\/sup> Annual Great Allentown Cleanups.\u00a0 This year Earth Day falls on Saturday, April 22<\/span> which is when most of the activities will take place.<\/p>\n

Past organized clean-up projects have brought out as many as 700 participants.\u00a0 The mayor is asking even more city residents, business owners, church goers and neighborhood and community group members to join-in.\u00a0 \u201cWe\u2019re inviting all city residents, whether they are homeowners or renters, to come out and take care of their homes and sidewalks,\u201d said Pawlowski.\u00a0 \u201cIf all our residents do their part, we\u2019ll have a significant impact on cleanliness across the city.\u00a0 It begins with each home, with each block and each neighborhood.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Bureau of Recycling and Solid Waste will supply brooms, bags, dust pans and litter tongs to the volunteers to be used for the Great Allentown Cleanups.\u00a0 The city will also provide trash and recycling pickup.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want all residents to show pride in their neighborhoods and help keep them clean,\u201d said Pawlowski.\u00a0 \u201cPlease don\u2019t litter, tie your trash bags, and set aside a few minutes each week to pick up the trash around your sidewalk.\u00a0 Taking those quick and easy steps will help beautify our city and improve the quality of life for everyone.\u201d<\/p>\n
