All This Has Come Upon Us\u00a0by Mark Podwal<\/strong><\/p>\n On Thursday, April 27, 4:10 p.m.<\/span><\/span>, in Lehigh University\u2019s Williams Hall, the university will present a free art exhibit and presentation of\u00a0All This Has Come Upon Us\u00a0by artist and illustrator Mark Podwal. The event will include a lecture with Podwal and Professor Marc Michael Epstein, chair of religion and visual culture at Vassar College. The exhibit of Podwal\u2019s 42 drawings and paintings of historical incidents of antisemitism will premiere with five prints in Williams Hall and will be on display with rotating artwork until the 42 prints have been exhibited.<\/p>\n The exhibit\u00a0All This Has Come Upon\u00a0Us\u00a0features Podwal\u2019s drawings and paintings of historical incidents of antisemitism, combined with verses from the Book of Psalms that recall a tragedy or injustice in Jewish history, from slavery in Egypt through the Holocaust. Podwal has noted that \u201cthe paintings and drawings in this series are a disturbing reminder of how Europe\u2019s extensive history of \u2018Jew-hatred\u2019 laid the groundwork for Terezin and Auschwitz.\u201d<\/p>\n Co-presenter Marc Michael Epstein is the Mattie M. Paschall (1899) & Norman Davis chair in Religion and Visual Culture at Vassar College and was the university\u2019s first director of Jewish studies.
