Ryan Mackenzie (R-Berks\/Lehigh) announced today that 12 volunteer fire and emergency medical services companies in the 134th District will share more than $147,000 in state grants.<br \/>\nThe dollars are distributed through the Pennsylvania Fire Company and Volunteer Ambulance Service Grant Program, which is funded by state gaming proceeds.  The purpose of the grants is to help volunteer public safety organizations with the construction and renovation of facilities.  The grants may also be used to purchase or repair firefighting, ambulance or rescue equipment; train personnel; or reduce debt.<br \/>\n\u201cOur area depends on dedicated volunteers to protect us when emergencies strike,\u201d said Mackenzie.  \u201cThe Fire and Volunteer Ambulance Grant Program gives these brave first responders the resources they need to more effectively do their jobs. I encourage all volunteer and emergency medical services organizations to apply for these grants next year when the application process opens.\u201d<br \/>\nMackenzie\u2019s office contacts eligible departments in the district each year to offer assistance with the grant application process.
