Representatives accepted the grant money during a ceremony at the school auditorium this afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>The presentation was attended by Mayor Ed Pawlowski; Bureau of Recycling and Solid Waste Manager Ann Saurman Allentown School District Executive Director of Secondary Education Ralph Lovelidge; Allen Assistant Principal Corey Cowan, Recyclebank Senior Account Manager Denise Diorio McVeigh and members of the Allen High School Environmental Club.<\/p>\n<p>Each year, participating schools work to encourage residents to donate Recyclebank points to fund their unique and creative environmental projects designed to positively affect students, educators and communities. Recyclebank then transfers the points into real dollars\u2014turning the community&#8217;s green actions into funds (up to\u00a0$2,500) for the school.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I am thrilled that the Recyclebank Green Schools Program has positively inspired sustainable behavior among Allentown schools and students, while encouraging innovation, and would like to take the opportunity to congratulate the students and staff of William Allen High School,&#8221; said Mayor Pawlowski. &#8220;We deeply appreciate our residents&#8217; contribution towards making Allentown a greener city and Recyclebank&#8217;s continued efforts since November 2016 to encourage environmentally-conscious actions among our residents.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are so excited that the Green Schools program grows with more schools participating each year,&#8221; said McVeigh. &#8220;We want to thank the students and educators who worked so hard on their project, and our members who donated their points towards the program, thus helping to bring us a step closer to a waste-free future.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Since 2007, Recyclebank Green Schools Program has granted more than $500K to more than 500 school projects.
