TREXLERTOWN, Pa. \u2013 The high-caliber racing and level of competition on the track has brought riders from 19 different nations to the Valley Preferred Cycling Center for Opening Weekend of the 2017 World Series of Bicycling season. Tons of fun promotions, highlighted by a Saturday night Fireworks Extravaganza presented by the Schmoyer Funeral Home, Trexler Funeral Home, and the J.S. Burkholder Funeral Home, will bring thousands of fans to T-Town as well.<\/p>\n

The Opening Weekend of the 2017 World Series of Bicycling season includes back-to-back nights of UCI sanctioned racing as well as great family fun for the fans. The season commences with the UCI U.S. Sprint Gran Prix on Friday, June 9 with the UCI Red Robin All-Stars on Saturday, June 10.<\/p>\n

As the Olympic cycle turns its focus to the 2020 games in Tokyo, riders from Australia, Austria, Argentina, Barbados, Canada, Germany, Great Britain, Ireland, Jamaica, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Suriname, South Africa, Trinidad, Wales, and the United States are in T-Town competing and racing during the entire month of June looking for valuable UCI points to help themselves qualify for world events and ultimately the Olympic games.<\/p>\n

Sprinting is the focus of the night on Friday with a sprint tournament for both the men and women. Additionally, there is an International Omnium, the first time ever in T-Town, that will be on the docket for Friday for both the men and the women. There is a morning session of action that begins at 9 a.m. and is free for fans. On Saturday, keirin racing comes to the forefront with a keirin tournament for both the men and women. Additionally, the all-stars from the spring season of the 2017 Red Robin Marty Nothstein Bicycle Racing League are set to compete as well. Racing begins with an afternoon session at 3:30 p.m. That session is ticketed with gates opening at 3:30pm and remaining through until the evening session, which begins at 7:30 p.m. Click here<\/a> to view the full schedule of events for Saturday\u2019s action.<\/p>\n

In addition to the Olympic-caliber racing on the track, off the track there is something for everyone. The band Wicked Beaver is performing live in the plaza during Happy Hour to kick-off the 2017 World Series of Bicycling Concert Series. Also, Ziggy\u2019s Roasters food truck is serving delicious food items to complement the A-Treat Breakaway Caf\u00e9\u2019s new menu items.<\/p>\n

On Saturday, the Schools Out Band performs in the plaza while Kona Ice is serving dessert items in the plaza. Stick around all night long to see the Post-race Fireworks Extravaganza, presented by the Schmoyer Funeral Home, the Trexler Funeral Home, and the J.S. Burkholder Funeral Home, right after the final event of the night.<\/p>\n

Tickets are on sale now on thevelodrome.com<\/a> and will be sold at the box office on the night of the event. Fans are encouraged to take advantage of the Opening Weekend special online to get into both Friday and Saturday for just one price and be entered for a chance to win free tickets and VeloMugs for the first ever T-Town BeerFest on July 7. That is an online special only. At the box office, fans can get tickets into both Friday and Saturday, plus get a VeloMug, for one price. Finish line tickets are $9, general admission is $6, and kids 12 years old and under are $2.<\/p>\n
