{"id":3658,"date":"2015-02-20T19:42:36","date_gmt":"2015-02-21T00:42:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/wordpress\/?p=3658"},"modified":"2015-02-20T19:44:24","modified_gmt":"2015-02-21T00:44:24","slug":"ceremony-held-for-new-police-officers-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/?p=3658","title":{"rendered":"CEREMONY HELD FOR NEW POLICE OFFICERS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Four new City of Allentown police officers were sworn-in this morning and received their department badges during a ceremony in City Council chambers.<\/p>\n<p>Mayor Ed Pawlowski and Police Chief Joel Fitzgerald presided as officers Zachary Bubnis, Roderick Devine, Preet Bajwa and Theodore Kiskeravage took the oath of office and received their department badges.<\/p>\n<p>The department now consists of 211 officers.\u00a0 More hirings are anticipated in the near future.\u00a0 Just eight years ago retirements had reduced available manpower to 160 officers.<\/p>\n<p>Pawlowski said, \u201cI am always impressed by the day to day dedication of the men and women of the Allentown police department.\u00a0 They perform their jobs under difficult and stressful circumstances.\u00a0 The December execution of two New York City police officers reminds us that we live in a world where the unthinkable does happen, but we are able to sleep easier knowing that police officers are on the job willing to risk their lives to protect us from harm.\u00a0 It is extremely important that we acknowledge their performance at opportunities like these.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI&#8217;m excited for our new officers, as this is a great time for them to join our ranks,\u201d said Chief Fitzgerald. \u201cWe (APD) worked very hard last year to get to this point. We used an &#8220;all hands on deck&#8221; approach to facilitate lengthy background investigations, because we understood the importance of getting it right.
