New flag disposal boxes are located at Lehigh County Government Center, Courthouse and both Cedarbrook Allentown & Fountain Hill.<\/p>\n
WASHINGTON \u2013 In partnership with the National Association of Counties, the National Flag Foundation and the National Sheriffs Association, the County of Lehigh has installed a flag retirement box, at no cost to the county, in the lobbies of the County Government Center, Courthouse and both Cedarbrook Allentown and Fountain Hill locations. Flags should be folded respectfully before being placed in the box.<\/p>\n
The United States Flag Code prescribes flag etiquette \u2014 everything from flying it near other flags to instructions on how to raise and lower it. \u201cThe flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem of display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning,\u201d says the code.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis centrally-located drop-off provides convenience while respecting our national symbol,\u201d said Lehigh County Executive Tom Muller. \u201cOften people don\u2019t know what to do with tattered and worn-out old flags, and this makes it easy for our residents to dispose of our national emblem with respect.\u201d Said NACo Executive Director Matthew Chase, \u201cWe are pleased to be able to partner in the provision of these flag retirement boxes. Proper disposal of the U.S. flag goes hand in hand with the commitment we make to public service while simultaneously benefiting our residents.\u201d<\/p>\n
