Have a wonderful Pride,\u201d Zanelli said. Dressed in rainbow tulle, Zanelli welcomed visitors to Allentown\u2019s traditional August festival at Cedar Beach Park with rainbow bracelets and stickers. If elected in November Zanelli would be the first openly gay commissioner on the Lehigh County Board of Commissioners.<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Zanelli-Pride-2.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-0\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-42961\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Zanelli-Pride-2-300x183.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"183\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Zanelli-Pride-2-300x183.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Zanelli-Pride-2.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">After a week of national tension and chaos, the Pride celebration was a refreshing and exhilarating day of music, fun, iced drinks and fair food.\u00a0 The overwhelming mood was unthreatened pride in diversity. <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">\u201cIn the wake of this administration it\u2019s really resonating with the community that it\u2019s our local government that protects us against this fascist, sexist, homophobic administration. If we can shore up our local government, we\u2019ll be able to protect our threatened minority communities through our own city and county levels. We don\u2019t have a truly representative government and if we aren\u2019t given a seat at the table, we are on the menu.\u201d<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">\u201cAmy is out and she is open about who she is,\u201d said supporter Becky Wamsley. \u201cShe\u2019s just like everyone else here, not afraid to be who they are. She\u2019s very family oriented. So, when she is out here she is showing people that you can build a life and you don\u2019t have to be afraid of who you are.\u201d<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">Zanelli heads into the November general election with strong grassroots support after a decisive victory in a hotly contested Democratic primary race. \u00a0With support from several workers unions, Zanelli is an advocate for working families and fair, safe working conditions for individuals of all backgrounds.
