Topics include photography, workplace wisdom, healthcare and more<\/em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n CENTER VALLEY, Pa. (Aug. 15, 2017) \u2013 Senior Adults Gaining Enrichment (SAGE), an outreach program of Penn State Lehigh Valley for adults age 55 and older, has announced the schedule for its fall 2017 four-part lecture series. Each SAGE session is held on the first Friday of the month (with the exception of September) and begins with coffee at 10:30 a.m.<\/span>, the featured speaker at 11 a.m.<\/span>, and lunch at noon<\/span>. All SAGE lectures are held in room 135 at Penn State Lehigh Valley located at 2809 Saucon Valley Road in Center Valley.<\/p>\n The mission of SAGE is to encourage intellectual and cultural enrichment for seniors, 55 and older, by providing a stimulating college-level lecture, workshop and seminar environment through a self-funded, self-directed and member-driven program.<\/p>\n Picture This \u2013 The Evolution of Photography 1980-present<\/p>\n Christos Karfakis, contemporary photo-historian will return to SAGE to focus on the evolution of photography from 1980 to the present. \u00a0<\/strong>The demise of Kodak, the Space\/Spy program, \u201ca camera in every pocket,\u201d and modern day photographers and their works will be covered.<\/p>\n Engaging Workplace Wisdom \u2013 Tapping Your Experience<\/p>\n Sybil Stershic, local author and respected thought leader in employee and volunteer engagement, will lead a dynamic discussion on what is important in taking care of those who mean the most to people in the workplace and in daily relationships. Penn State students will join SAGE attendees to learn from everyone\u2019s collective wisdom and gain advice they can use from SAGE scholars.<\/p>\n Unraveling Medicare and Medicaid<\/p>\n Anita Yuskauskas, Program Coordinator for the Health Policy and Administration Degree, will share her experience as a former Technical Director with the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).\u00a0 She will explain the general benefits of these public programs, and decode the language and activities surrounding proposed legislative and policy changes to health care funding.<\/p>\n Practicing Our Civic Values: Re-Imagining 20th Century Writing for the Purpose of Peace<\/p>\n Maryann P. DiEdwardo will share her newest research which involves identifying key images, values, beliefs and social structures that point toward a particular cultural movement.\u00a0 She will share her own healing and transformative experiences based upon her reading of the work of Thomas Merton.\u00a0 For those who wish to go deeper with the topic, read \u201cThe Seven Storey Mountain\u201d by Thomas Merton.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The cost per lecture is $20, or attend all four for $60.
