\u201cZachi believed that people of all ages are able to do a little something every day to make Allentown and the rest of the world a better place,\u201d said Pawlowski.\u00a0 \u201cI was privileged to know him and I am pleased to honor Felicity and Jesse with the second \u201cHero Up Award.\u201d<\/p>\n
On her nomination form Felicity was credited with always stepping-up to the challenge and making sure that snow was always cleared for visitors at her church.\u00a0 Felicity also showed compassion and practical love while spending countless hours caring for a disabled child.<\/p>\n
Jesse has been participating in the Lehigh County Youth Association (LCYA), serving as treasurer, football and baseball coordinator and coach of several sports teams.\u00a0 He also serves snacks and drinks to customers and water to players.\u00a0 Young Jesse also is the first to arrive and the last to leave the fields.<\/p>\n
In addition Mayor Pawlowski honored the Love Our City grant recipients for their volunteerism efforts.<\/p>\n
Allentown received a $25,000 Cities of Service grant in 2013.\u00a0 Those funds were awarded as $750.00 mini-grants to businesses, organizations, and neighborhood groups.\u00a0 The Love Our City grant projects addressed, but were not limited to, clearing of illegal dumping projects, graffiti removal, cleaning of littered neighborhood blocks and alleys, clearing of tree wells, community gardens, community art and lighting improvement projects.<\/p>\n
These groups included: Faith Church, Library Area Neighborhood Association, Liberian Association of Northeastern PA, Community Action Development Corporation \u2013 Allentown, Lifechurch, Mosser Elementary School, McKinley Elementary School, Old Allentown Preservation Association, United Youth from Roberto Clemente Charter School, Hamilton District Main Street Program, Union and West End Cemetery Association, Asbury United Methodist Church, Allentown Central Catholic HS Ecology Club, Oakmont Tennis Club, Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center, West Park Civic Association, Person Directed Supports Organization, West End Alliance and Friends of the Allentown Parks.<\/p>\n
