{"id":48906,"date":"2017-10-16T22:45:39","date_gmt":"2017-10-17T02:45:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/?p=48906"},"modified":"2017-10-16T22:45:39","modified_gmt":"2017-10-17T02:45:39","slug":"lady-perpetual-help-3rd-graders-participating-mystery-hangout","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/?p=48906","title":{"rendered":"Our Lady of Perpetual Help 3rd graders participating in a Mystery Hangout"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, October 18, Mrs. Lessig\u2019s third grade classroom at Our Lady of Perpetual Help School (OLPH) in Bethlehem, PA will participate in a Mystery Hangout, a social game played with two different schools where students must guess each other\u2019s location.<\/p>\n<p>Using Google+, students will connect to each other\u2019s classrooms in a video conference call and ask each other questions to determine the other\u2019s location. Classes will prepare for the Geography lesson by writing clues and formulating specific questions. On its website, Google explains that it is \u201ca mix of Battleships and 20 questions\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Mrs. Frio, technology teacher at OLPH, is excited about the program for many reasons. \u201cThis activity is a great way for students to connect with their peers in other parts of the country, or even the world, and also to collaborate with their fellow classmates to find a solution- skills that are necessary in any aspect of life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Daniel Moser, Principal at OLPH, said, \u201cAt OLPH, our goal is excellence in education and offering a well-rounded curriculum. We want to engage students by using different avenues and teaching methods. The Mystery Hangout activity encourages real learning of the world and our country, its regions, directions, capitals, times zones, landforms, etc. It\u2019s a way for students to become immersed in the lesson and it helps us to make learning fun.<\/p>\n<p>Established in 1964, Our Lady of Perpetual Help School (OLPH) is located in Bethlehem, PA. The Catholic-based school is incorporated into the educational system of the Diocese of Allentown. Recognizing that Christian education is a lifelong process, OLPH encourages the child\u2019s whole development and nurtures the spiritual, intellectual, social, physical, and psychological well-being of each individual.
