{"id":51200,"date":"2017-11-04T09:47:23","date_gmt":"2017-11-04T13:47:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/?p=51200"},"modified":"2017-11-04T09:47:23","modified_gmt":"2017-11-04T13:47:23","slug":"liberty-bell-museum-american-revolution-exhibit-open-november-8th","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/?p=51200","title":{"rendered":"Liberty Bell Museum American Revolution Exhibit to Open November 8th"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>Curator Kurt Zwikl to Speak at Gallery Opening Reception 6:00-7:30pm<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Allentown \u2013 The Liberty Bell Museum in Allentown will feature \u201cBringing the War of Independence To Life\u201d in an exhibit of 19<sup>th<\/sup> Century illustrations from a collection curated by Allentown resident Kurt Zwikl. At a special opening presentation, Zwikl will be highlighted as guest speaker starting at <span data-term=\"goog_1894461605\">6:00 p.m.<\/span> on Wednesday, November 8<sup>th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSince the 1970\u2019s, I have been assembling a collection of original 19<sup>th<\/sup> century engravings of battles of the American Revolution and wanted to exhibit them,\u201d Zwikl said. He\u2019s been working with the National Park Service and officials at Heritage areas in Pennsylvania and New Jersey to host the traveling exhibition. The Liberty Bell Museum exhibit will be the 4<sup>th<\/sup> that Zwikl has curated.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibit includes 47 original engravings of the American Revolution and represent illustrations from 16 artists including John Trumbull, John Warner Barber, Felix O.C. Darley, Alonzo Chappel, Howard Pyle and Frederick C. Yohn.\u00a0 All are known for their historical work and in particular their renditions of the military leaders, battle scenes and memorable events from the American Revolution.<\/p>\n<p>Zwikl, a former state legislator, past president of the Allentown Economic Development Corporation and former chair of the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, was recently elected President of the Allentown School District Foundation Board of Directors.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/libertybellmuseum.org\/\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?hl=en&amp;q=http:\/\/libertybellmuseum.org\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1509887587629000&amp;usg=AFQjCNECIaHBMYZAlSQL92-8LkRF5N0WlQ\">Liberty Bell Museum<\/a> is located in historic Zion\u2019s Reformed United Church of Christ, located at 622 W. Hamilton St, Allentown, PA. The church is on the National Register of Historic Places.
