{"id":5314,"date":"2015-05-11T15:14:25","date_gmt":"2015-05-11T19:14:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/?p=5314"},"modified":"2015-05-11T15:14:25","modified_gmt":"2015-05-11T19:14:25","slug":"allentown-ymcaywca-offers-free-learn-to-swim-to-keep-kids-safe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/?p=5314","title":{"rendered":"Allentown YMCA\/YWCA Offers Free \u201cLearn To Swim\u201d To Keep Kids Safe"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Water Safety Program Headlines Full Schedule Of Activities For Youth and Adults <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Allentown, Pa<\/em>. \u2013The Allentown YMCA &amp;YWCA has a variety of programs and events scheduled for the Spring and Summer sessions, beginning with a free weeklong \u201cLearn To Swim\u201d class for youngsters ages 8 to 11 held this week to help improve their water safety skills.<\/p>\n<p>Spots are still available for the classes, which are being held from <span data-term=\"goog_381928586\">6 to 6:45 p.m.<\/span> and from <span data-term=\"goog_381928587\">6:45 to 7:30 p.m.<\/span>, <span data-term=\"goog_381928588\">Monday, May 11 to Friday, May 15<\/span>. Ryan Griffith of the Allentown Parks and Recreation Department is working with the Y to provide additional aquatics instructors for the class, said YMCA &amp; YWCA President and CEO Jim Finchum.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe focus of the Learn to Swim program is that all participants will finish the program having learned new swim techniques as well as water safety skills that can save lives,\u201d said Finchum. \u201cThis program is a great reflection of Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility as the participants will be active in learning new skills, develop confidence and will have the opportunity to make new friends.\u00a0 The participants will also learn about the Y\u2019s core values throughout the program, which are Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the Learn to Swim program, the Y is also working with the Rodale Institute of Organic Farming to present the \u201cFarmers Market At The Y\u201d that will begin on <span data-term=\"goog_381928589\">Saturday, June 6<\/span> and operate every <span data-term=\"goog_381928590\">Saturday<\/span> until <span data-term=\"goog_381928591\">Oct. 31<\/span> at the Y, 435 S. 15<sup>th<\/sup> St., Allentown.<\/p>\n<p>Community residents who use SNAP benefits can obtain $2 of produce for every $1 of SNAP benefits and the market will be open from <span data-term=\"goog_381928592\">9 a.m. to 1 p.m.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In addition, the Y also offers a Youth Art Program and Day Camp during the summer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAllentown YMCA Camp Exploration and Camp Macungie offer children positive development experiences and building confidence through new and age appropriate activities,\u201d Finchum said. \u201cOur Day Camp provides youngsters with opportunities to explore nature, develop new talents, gain independence, and make friendships and memories that last a lifetime.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Y is a critical part of the community and we are a family and member-friendly facility,\u201d he added. \u201cWe have something for everyone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To learn more, please go to <a href=\"http:\/\/allentownymcaywca.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/allentownymcaywca.org\/<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class='adkingprobanner sidebar banner3023'><a href='http:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/' target=\"_blank\" data-id='3023' data-ga='{\"campaign\":\"\",\"banner\":\"\",\"implemented\":\"universal\",\"imp_action\":\"Impression\",\"click_action\":\"Click\"}'><img src='https:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/inpostblank.jpg' alt='' \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"&hellip;
