Pennsylvania\u2019s Music Preservation Society, a 501(c)(3) charitable non-profit organization whose mission is to promote & preserve the musical heritage & cultural history of Pennsylvania, is holding their inaugural event on Sunday, May 17th<\/sup> from 2:00PM to 8:00PM<\/span> at Maingate (corner of 17th<\/sup> & Liberty Streets) on The Allentown Fairgrounds.<\/p>\n

Grammy nominee Alex Meixner is the featured artist along with special guest appearances by Walt Groller, John Stevens, and Steve Brosky & Jimmy Meyer.\u00a0 Walt, who has been entertaining audiences for 70 years, will perform a few traditional style numbers with Alex and the band for a once in a lifetime experience not to be missed.\u00a0 Rumor has it Steve, Jimmy, and Alex are working on a polka version of \u201cDo The Dutch\u201d.\u00a0 You might also hear a combined effort on \u201cPennsylvania Hills\u201d, John Stevens will also make a special appearance with Alex and the band; this might be a preview of the Society\u2019s second show scheduled for November 8th<\/sup> at AG hall on The Allentown Fairgrounds.<\/p>\n

Springfest will start off with some of the younger talent the Lehigh Valley has to offer.\u00a0 Community Music School will kick off the event with their youth jazz ensemble, Impressions, playing a few jazz selections.\u00a0 William Allen High School Studio Dance Academy is also scheduled to show off some of their dance routines for the crowd.<\/p>\n

Members of The Happy Boombadears of Allentown will put on a special guest performance during one of Alex\u2019s breaks to show us this unique, and mostly forgotten about, Pennsylvania Dutch instrument.\u00a0 In addition, bring your own boombas and \u201cmake a racket\u201d, as they say, along with local boomba player, Walt Bauman, who will occasionally join in while Alex and the band are on stage.<\/p>\n

Try some of the authentic Hungarian & Polish food available from our vendors.\u00a0 St. Stevens of Hungary will have hand-stretched sweet (like apple) & savory (like cabbage) strudels & homemade Hungarian goulash.\u00a0 St. John Paul II Polish Society will have 3 types of homemade pierogi, kielbasi & sauerkraut, & potato pancakes.<\/p>\n

It all promises to be a good time for all ages with good food & maybe a little history.<\/p>\n

Tickets are available for $8 at the Fairgrounds Hotel at 17th<\/sup> & Liberty Streets, just ask at the bar, and will also available for $10 at the door.<\/p>\n
