McCarthy has extensive experience in the law and in municipal and county government.\u00a0 He was a judge in the court\u2019s Civil and Family Division from 2016-2018.\u00a0 He served on the Lehigh County Board of Commissioners from 2002-2014 and was the county\u2019s Director of Administration from 2014-2016.\u00a0 McCarthy served 32 years as solicitor to the Allentown Parking Authority and four years as assistant city solicitor.\u00a0 He chaired the Allentown Zoning Hearing Board from 2006-2016.<\/u><\/u><\/span><\/u>\u00a0<\/u><\/span><\/p>\n \u201cJudge McCarthy will be an outstanding city solicitor,\u201d said Pawlowski.\u00a0 \u201cHe has tremendous credentials.\u00a0 He has to be among the most knowledgeable in this area when it comes to the inner workings of municipal government and the law.\u00a0 I am very pleased and honored to submit his nomination to City Council.\u201d<\/u><\/u><\/span><\/u>\u00a0<\/u><\/span><\/p>\n \u201cAllentown is my hometown.\u00a0 I owe much to it,\u201d McCarthy said.\u00a0 \u201cMy commitment is to provide quality legal services to advance and protect all city operations.\u201d<\/u><\/u><\/span><\/u>\u00a0<\/u><\/span><\/p>\n Before going on the Lehigh County Court bench, McCarthy practiced law with Davison & McCarthy PC in Allentown.\u00a0 He earned his law degree at the University of Houston School of Law.<\/u><\/u><\/span><\/u>\u00a0<\/u><\/span><\/p>\n McCarthy is admitted to the bar of Supreme Court of the United States, the Third Circuit Court of Appeals, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania and the Supreme Court of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.\u00a0 He is a past president of the Lehigh County Bar Association.<\/u><\/u><\/span><\/u>\u00a0<\/u><\/span><\/p>\n McCarthy is nominated to succeed Susan Wild who resigned effective January 15 to run for Congress.<\/u><\/u><\/span><\/u>\u00a0<\/u><\/span><\/p>\n The nomination of McCarthy must be confirmed by City Council.<\/u><\/u><\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n
