For the seventh consecutive year, the City of Allentown is looking to honor outstanding young persons across the city.<\/p>\n
Launched in 2012, the \u201cCatch a Young Person Doing Something Right\u201d campaign honors the numerous young people who contribute to the well-being of Allentown.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is important to recognize young people whose positive contributions make Allentown a better place,\u201d said Mayor Ed Pawlowski.\u00a0 \u201cThis is an opportunity for members of organizations and neighborhoods to show how much they appreciate them.\u00a0 It is my hope that many people will take a few minutes to nominate the youth of the city who make them proud.\u201d<\/p>\n
Residents are encouraged to submit names of youth they\u2019ve \u201ccaught doing something right\u201d in one of the following three categories:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n Volunteerism <\/strong>\u2013 For assisting someone or improving a neighborhood or the community in general<\/p>\n Scholastic Achievement<\/strong> \u2013 Notable academic improvement and\/or academic excellence<\/p>\n Going Over and Beyond the Call of Duty<\/strong> \u2013 for doing more than following the rules, such as making a good decision even when peers chose otherwise.\u00a0 For showing leadership skills, critical thinking, problem solving, maturity or conflict resolution.<\/p>\n Criteria: <\/strong>Youth ages 7-18 years old, group nominations are welcomed; nominees may not be nominated by themselves or a family member; nominees must live in Allentown or go to school in Allentown; scholastic achievement nominations must be for an Allentown school; only one nomination is permitted per person.<\/p>\n Thirty-six youths were honored last year at a reception in City Council Chambers.<\/p>\n Nominations are due by Monday, February 26, 2018<\/span>.
