BETHLEHEM, PA\u2014GRAMMY Award winning singer-songwriter John Popper of Blues Traveler kicks off the popular RiverJazz presented by Concannon Miller when he takes the stage at the ArtsQuest Center\u2019s Musikfest Caf\u00e9 presented by Yuengling May 2, 7:30 p.m.<\/span> Tickets for the concert go on sale starting Feb. 27, 10 a.m.<\/span>, to ArtsQuest Members and March 2, 10 a.m.<\/span>, to the public. One of the greatest harmonica players in rock music, John Popper<\/strong> is best known as the front man for the jam band Blues Traveler. As a singer-songwriter, he penned hits like \u201cHook\u201d and the GRAMMY Award winning \u201cRun-Around.\u201d Popper has also co-written songs with Trey Anastasio, Warren Haynes, Chris Barron and Jonny Lang, and he has frequently appeared as a guest performer with musicians in a variety of genres including Spin Doctors, Dave Matthews Band, Phish, Allman Brothers Band, Grateful Dead, Eric Clapton, B.B. King; Jason Mraz, John Mayer, Metallica, Smashing Pumpkins and more.\u00a0 Tickets for his show are $36-$49.<\/p>\n

BETHLEHEM, PA\u2014New wave icon Nick Lowe with Los Straitjackets and Splintered Sunlight, returning for its annual summer residency, are among the seven new performances announced for the ArtsQuest Center at SteelStacks. Tickets for the performances go on sale Feb. 27, 10 a.m.<\/span>, to ArtsQuest Members and March 2, 10 a.m.<\/span>, to the public at www.steelstacks.org<\/a> and 610-332-3378<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Following the release of its latest tribute album \u201cWhat\u2019s So Funny About Peace, Love and Los Straitjackets,\u201d surf-rock guitar instrumentalists Los Straitjackets<\/strong> join forces with legendary producer and singer-songwriter Nick Lowe <\/strong>for an unforgettable on stage collaboration June 26, 7:30 p.m.<\/span>, in the Musikfest Caf\u00e9 presented by Yuengling. A noted figure in pop and new wave music, Lowe is best known for his songs “Cruel to Be Kind\u201d and “I Love the Sound of Breaking Glass,” as well as his production work with Elvis Costello, for whom he wrote “(What’s So Funny ‘Bout) Peace, Love, and Understanding.” In his solo career, starting with 1995\u2032s \u201cThe Impossible Bird\u201d through to 2011\u2032s \u201cThe Old Magic,\u201d he has turned out a fantastic string of albums.<\/p>\n

Clad in trademark Lucha Libre Mexican wrestling masks, Los Straitjackets honored Lowe\u2019s amazing melodies with a 13-track tribute album in 2017. Using the music of the Ventures, The Shadows, and with Link Wray and Dick Dale as a jumping off point, this band has taken its unique, high-energy brand of original rock \u2018n roll around the world, delivering its signature guitar licks to 16 albums, thousands of concerts and dozens of films and TV shows. The Musikfest Caf\u00e9 is also pleased to present the return of the popular Splintered Sunlight<\/strong> residency May 31<\/span>, June 28<\/span>, July 12 and Aug. 30, 8 p.m.<\/span> Formed in 1992, Splintered Sunlight quickly became the most popular Grateful Dead tribute band in the Philadelphia region, gaining praise from Dead Heads and others alike. Following its success the last two years as the Musikfest Caf\u00e9\u2019s first-ever Artist in Residence, the group is returning to the venue to recreate classic Dead shows from the 1970s-\u201900s on the dates they were performed. Included are a May 31, 1992 show at Sam Boyd Silver Bowl in Las Vegas, Nev.; June 28, 2015 Fare Thee Well show at Levi Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif.; July 12, 1989 at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C. and Aug. 30, 1981 at Compton Terrace Amphitheatre in Tempe, Ariz. Tickets for each show are $10-$15 in advance and $13-$18 day of show.<\/p>\n
