Allentown DeMolay\u00a0is celebrating\u00a0DeMolay\u00a0Month\u00a0in March again this year to commemorate\u00a0the 99th anniversary of the founding of the Order of\u00a0DeMolay.<\/span><\/p>\n

Allentown City Council recognized the group with a Proclamation presented to Chapter officers on Wednesday, March 14, in Allentown City Council Chambers.<\/span><\/p>\n

DeMolay is an international youth organization sponsored by the Masonic fraternity that builds character and leadership skills in young men between the ages of 12 and 21. <\/span><\/p>\n

The Order of DeMolay was\u00a0founded in 1919 in Kansas City, Missouri, by a Kansas City area\u00a0Mason, Frank S. Land, who selected the name to honor Jacques DeMolay, the last Grand Master of the Knights Templar in France.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Allentown Chapter\u00a0was formed in 1926 by local Masons, who also built the local Masonic Temple located on Linden Street<\/i> across from Allentown\u2019s West Park.<\/span><\/p>\n

Allentown DeMolay is sponsored by Allen-Beauceant Commandery No. 20 of the Knights Templar. <\/span><\/p>\n

Both groups meet in the Commandery Asylum located on the first floor of the Temple.<\/span><\/p>\n

Allentown\u00a0Chapter includes boys from the City of\u00a0Allentown and many neighboring\u00a0municipalities and school districts throughout the Lehigh Valley, including Allentown, East Penn, Parkland, Salisbury, Whitehall-Coplay,\u00a0Northampton, Nazareth, Bangor, and Easton.<\/span><\/p>\n

The current Master Councilor, Miles Green, is a sophomore at Emmaus High School.<\/span><\/p>\n

To encourage all Pennsylvania\u00a0DeMolay\u00a0Chapters to organize, execute, and document successful\u00a0DeMolay\u00a0Month\u00a0observances during the month of March, Pennsylvania\u00a0DeMolay\u00a0again sponsored the\u00a0DeMolay\u00a0Month\u00a0Award of Excellence. <\/span><\/p>\n

As a part of this contest, each Chapter can earn points by completing certain tasks, and the winner will be\u00a0recognized with the Pennsylvania DeMolay\u00a0\u201cDeMolay\u00a0Month\u00a099th Anniversary Award of Excellence.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition to one Chapter winning the Award of Excellence, the top three Chapters in Pennsylvania\u00a0will be recognized\u00a0with certificates and\u00a0cash prizes\u00a0at the state\u00a0organization\u2019s\u00a0annual convention,\u00a0which is being held this year\u00a0in Gettysburg. Last year, Pennsylvania DeMolay held their convention at the Holiday Inn – Allentown in Fogelsville from\u00a0<\/span>July 14-16<\/span>. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Allentown Chapter is seeking to win the Award of Excellence and the top\u00a0cash prize to help offset the cost of chapter activities,\u201d according to Edward John White, the Chairman of Allentown Chapter\u2019s 14-member Advisory Council.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

DeMolay is recognized by the IRS as a public charity under IRS Section 501c3.<\/span><\/p>\n

One of the ways each Chapter is encouraged to participate in DeMolay Month and for which it can obtain points toward the contest awards is to obtain proclamations or resolutions recognizing\u00a0DeMolay\u00a0Month\u00a0from local, state, and national elected officials. <\/span><\/p>\n

Wednesday\u2019s presentation by Allentown City Council was postponed from last Wednesday due to the snowstorm.<\/span><\/p>\n
