{"id":69111,"date":"2018-03-17T10:44:26","date_gmt":"2018-03-17T14:44:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/?p=69111"},"modified":"2018-03-29T16:05:08","modified_gmt":"2018-03-29T20:05:08","slug":"meals-wheels-lehigh-northampton-counties-join-subaru-meals-wheels-america-sharing-love-holiday-season-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/?p=69111","title":{"rendered":"Highmark Blue Shield Grants to Meals On Wheels To Fund 7000 Meals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>(BETHLEHEM &amp; ALLENTOWN) \u2013 Meals On Wheels organizations in Lehigh and Northampton counties are proud to announce that each has received a $5,000 grant from the Highmark Blue Shield to subsidize home-delivered meals for low-income clients.<\/p>\n<p>Almost 7,000 freshly prepared, nutritious and medically tailored meals will be provided for Lehigh Valley low-income clients by the two Meals On Wheels programs thanks to the generosity of the Highmark Blue Shield.\u00a0 Grants and donations to the agencies ensure that every homebound senior or adult with disabilities at risk of hunger in each county will be served meals promptly without regard to their ability to pay or the availability of government funding.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Meals on Wheels of Lehigh County<\/strong>, a private nonprofit agency, supports the wellness and independence of adults by providing nutritious and medically tailored meals and supportive services. Each weekday, volunteers deliver meals and provide social visits and wellbeing checks to an average of 460 homebound seniors and adults with disabilities living throughout Lehigh County. The Agency also offers grocery shopping services to almost 200 clients.
