Allentown Art Museum unveils “Girl Balancing Knowledge III” by London-based artist, Yinka Shonibare.\u00a0<\/i><\/p>\n

Bethlehem, Pa. — <\/span><\/strong>March 21, 2018<\/span><\/span><\/b> —\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>PBS39, the Greater Lehigh Valley’s public media station, stopped by the Allentown Art Museum earlier this month, for the unveiling of a very special sculpture, <\/span>“Girl Balancing Knowledge III”<\/span><\/strong>. <\/span>Yinka Shonibare<\/span><\/strong>, an internationally-renowned, London-based artist, artfully crafted the figure using a shiny black globe, lots of colorful textiles and two dozen books.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

PBS39 has created a 30 minute program featuring Shonibare, with an in-depth look at the artist and the commissioned piece. Tune in to PBS39 on <\/span>Wednesday, March 21 at 6pm<\/span><\/strong> to see “Shonibare Comes to Allentown”. \u00a0The show will air again on Monday, March 26 at 6pm<\/span><\/b>, and will be available to view anytime at <\/span>wlvt.org<\/a><\/span><\/u><\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n


\n<\/span> This work is the most significant commission by the museum in its history, and the artist, who is debilitated as the result of a virus that attacked his nervous system, discusses his work with passion and a razor-sharp wit.
