{"id":70878,"date":"2018-03-29T23:26:12","date_gmt":"2018-03-30T03:26:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/?p=70878"},"modified":"2018-03-29T23:26:12","modified_gmt":"2018-03-30T03:26:12","slug":"pbs39-premieres-shonibare-comes-to-allentown-featuring-internationally-renowned-artist-2-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/?p=70878","title":{"rendered":"PBS39 Partners with Lehigh University to &#8220;Find a Common Thread&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/FpUQ4tVd6ew\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><br \/>\n<em>The Student-Led Production Opens a Dialogue on Important Political Issues. <\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Bethlehem, Pa. &#8212; March 28, 2018 &#8212;\u00a0<\/strong>PBS39 has partnered with Lehigh University&#8217;s Global Citizenship program to host <strong>&#8220;Finding Our Common Thread: Tackling Political Apathy,&#8221;<\/strong> a three part series that discusses current political topics that affect society. The program will address industry and economic globalization, the refugee crisis and migration, and LGBTQ rights and gender equality.<\/p>\n<p>Lehigh University&#8217;s Global Citizenship program prepares students for engaged living in a culturally diverse and rapidly changing world. Emphasizing critical analysis and value reflection, the program structures educational experiences through which students learn to negotiate international boundaries and develop their own sense of personal, social, and corporate responsibility to the global community.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Working with the Lehigh students in bringing their conversations from concept-to-screen has been a wonderful experience,&#8221; said <strong>Matt Lewis<\/strong>, PBS39&#8217;s Education Media Specialist. &#8220;I&#8217;m so proud of the work the students from Lehigh University have done on this project. \u00a0Conversations, like the one&#8217;s they are facilitating, are important to have in our community &#8211; and PBS39 is thrilled to host such an event.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The &#8220;Finding Our Common Thread&#8221; series will be taped at the PPL Public Media Center\u00a0in front of a live studio audience. Lehigh Students, <strong>Sydney O&#8217;Tapi<\/strong> and <strong>Angie Rizzo<\/strong>, will co-host the series alongside PBS39 reporter and host, <strong>Tracy Yatsko<\/strong>.Tickets will be available to the public at no cost and seating is very limited. Doors open at <span data-term=\"goog_311543987\">5pm.<\/span> Attendees will\u00a0participate in break out sessions and group discussions as part of this event.<\/p>\n<p>The first episode covers industry and economic globalization. Joining the panel for this discussion will be\u00a0<strong>Vera Fennell<\/strong>, Associate Professor in Lehigh University&#8217;s Department of Political Science, <strong>Alicia Miller Karner<\/strong>, Director of the Department of Community and Economic Development in the City of Bethlehem, and <strong>John Kenly Smith<\/strong>, Associate Professor of History at Lehigh University. Taping will be held on <span data-term=\"goog_311543988\">Wednesday, April 4 at 6pm<\/span> and will air the following <span data-term=\"goog_311543989\">Wednesday, April 11 at 6pm.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The second episode addresses the refugee crisis and migration. Joining the panel for this discussion will be\u00a0<strong>Sarah Fouts<\/strong>, Postdoctoral Fellow at Lehigh University in Latin American and Latino Studies,\u00a0<strong>Javier Toro<\/strong>, and <strong>Dr. Sarah Stanlick<\/strong>, founding director of Lehigh&#8217;s Center for Community Engagement. Taping for this episode will be held on <span data-term=\"goog_311543990\">Wednesday, April 18 at 6pm<\/span> and will air the following <span data-term=\"goog_311543991\">Wednesday, April 25 at 6pm.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The third and final episode the students will discuss LGBTQ rights and gender equity. Joining the panel for this discussion will be\u00a0<strong>Scott Burden<\/strong>, <strong>Rita Jones, Ph. D.<\/strong>, Director of the Center for Gender Equity at Lehigh University, and\u00a0<strong>Adrian Shanker<\/strong>, Executive Director of Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center.
