\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Bethlehem, Pa. — April 13, 2018 —<\/b>\u00a0On\u00a0Monday, April 16, 2018\u00a0at 6:00pm<\/b> PBS39 will premiere a brand new local program called “Making of a Young Chef” in partnership with Bethlehem Area School District (BASD) and Sodexo. The 30 minute show\u00a0follows six BASD elementary students as they compete in Sodexo’s annual Future Chef’s Culinary Competition. The six finalist were chosen out of over 400 recipes submitted this year.<\/p>\n Earlier this month the six students met at Northeast Middle School\u00a0in a\u00a0head-to-head, competitive\u00a0cook-off.\u00a0The theme for this year’s competition was Asian-fusion foods.\u00a0The students were paired with their very own sous chef to help assist them in the kitchen, and each aspiring young chef received a personalized chef coat, hat, and apron.<\/p>\n This national program was created to get students thinking about making healthy choices while also encouraging them to get active and creative in the kitchen. These BASD students join nearly 2,000 other students across 30 states nationally in this fun and educational cooking challenge.<\/p>\n Judges awarded points to the students for best\u00a0presentation,\u00a0heath-conscious foods, kid-friendly preparation, fun foods, and judge’s choice.\u00a0The judges for this year’s competition\u00a0included\u00a0Ed Kenna<\/b>, Food Services Director for Bethlehem Area Schools;\u00a0Joe Rahs<\/b>, Principal of Northeast Middle School;\u00a0Stacy Gober<\/b>, Bethlehem Area School District Chief Financial Officer;\u00a0Tim Fallon<\/b>, CEO of PBS39;\u00a0Symarah Drey<\/b>, a former winner with her own YouTube channel;\u00a0 and\u00a0Abby Thompson<\/b>, last year’s winner.<\/p>\n All six finalists received prizes from Sodexo and PBS39.
