{"id":77575,"date":"2018-05-26T11:40:59","date_gmt":"2018-05-26T15:40:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/?p=77575"},"modified":"2018-05-26T11:40:59","modified_gmt":"2018-05-26T15:40:59","slug":"lehigh-valley-charter-high-school-for-the-arts-touring-choir-to-perform-with-john-rutter-at-carnegie-hall","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/?p=77575","title":{"rendered":"Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Arts Touring Choir to perform with John Rutter at Carnegie Hall"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>BETHLEHEM, PA (<span data-term=\"goog_1749060677\">May 26, 2018<\/span>)&#8212;-\u00a0 Members of the Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Arts (Charter Arts) Touring Choir will be traveling to New York City this weekend in preparation for their performance with composer, John Rutter, at Carnegie Hall as part of a choir festival adjudicated by Mid-America Concert Productions.\u00a0 The choir will perform alongside other choirs on <span data-term=\"goog_1749060678\">Monday, May 28th<\/span> in a full orchestral performance of Rutter&#8217;s &#8220;Requiem&#8221; and then they will perform a 25-minute solo set at the festival&#8217;s closing concert on <span data-term=\"goog_1749060679\">Tuesday, May 29th<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>The choir regularly performs Rutter&#8217;s work as part of its repertoire, so this engagement is especially important to the students.\u00a0 For instance, the school&#8217;s combined choirs performed\u00a0Rutter&#8217;s\u00a0<em>Magnificat<\/em>\u00a0for the school&#8217;s winter choral concert this year.<\/p>\n<p>The Charter Arts Touring Choir is currently made up of<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>50 students\u00a0and with this special performance continues its impressive legacy under the direction of David Macbeth, who is also the Artistic Director of Vocal Music at the school.\u00a0 \u00a0The choir\u00a0earned a gold medal at the 2012 World\u00a0Choir\u00a0Games, which was the highest\u00a0award\u00a0for a high school\u00a0choir\u00a0at the prestigious international event.\u00a0 In addition to performing to sold-out crowds in the region, the\u00a0choir\u00a0has graced the stage alongside such acts as the pop group,\u00a0<em>Paramore,\u00a0<\/em>the operatic quartet,<em>\u00a0The\u00a0Tenors<\/em>, and the legendary rock group,\u00a0<em>Foreigner<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;The opportunity to perform with John Rutter is incredibly significant to me and to the students,&#8221; <\/em>says Macbeth<em>.\u00a0 &#8220;He is one of the most significant composers of choral music in the last 100 years.\u00a0 Our repertoire has included his work since our school opened fifteen years ago.\u00a0 When I mentioned this festival opportunity at the start of the school year, the students actually let out screams of joy because they were so excited.\u00a0 This is the first time in our school&#8217;s history and my personal history to work with John Rutter in person.
