ALLENTOWN, PA —\u00a0Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center applauds the\u00a0appointment\u00a0by Governor Tom Wolf’s administration of\u00a0a member of its own team,\u00a0Liz Bradbury, to serve on the 15-member,\u00a0Pennsylvania Alzheimer\u2019s State Plan Task Force.<\/b><\/p>\n

Liz Bradbury is Director of The Training\u00a0Institute\u00a0at Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center and is a certified trainer for SAGE: Services and Advocacy for GLBT Elders.<\/p>\n

The Pennsylvania Alzheimer’s State Plan Task Force was created at the\u00a0Pennsylvania Department of Aging to take a lead role in implementing and championing the goals and recommendations of the Pennsylvania State Plan for Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders.<\/p>\n

In a release from the Pennsylvania Department of Aging, Secretary Teresa Osborne stated:\u00a0\u201cThe Wolf Administration is committed to embracing and supporting Pennsylvanians who are touched by Alzheimer\u2019s disease or a related disorder,\u201d said Secretary of Aging Teresa Osborne. \u201cWe are confident that the task force will help us ensure that home and community-based services and supports are available, accessible, and responsive to the needs of both caregivers and those living with dementia.\u201d<\/p>\n

Upon learning of her appointment, Liz Bradbury stated, “I am grateful to the Wolf Administration for this appointment, which demonstrates the administrations commitment to the LGBT community with regard to issues on aging. LGBT older adults are at a high risk for lack of support and advocacy but are more likely to have to seek institutionalized care later in life because we are statistically less likely to have children.\u00a0It is critical to the health of older LGBT adults that the LGBT community is included in the planning related to aging issues, including alzheimer’s.”<\/p>\n

Adrian Shanker, Executive Director of Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center, stated, “I am grateful to Governor Wolf and Secretary Osborne\u00a0for the appointment of a highly-qualified LGBT person to serve on this important task force within our state government. Liz Bradbury is a life-long advocate for the LGBT community and is passionate about issues related to older LGBT adults. I am glad that the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will benefit from her expertise and service to\u00a0The Pennsylvania Alzheimer’s State Plan Task Force.”<\/p>\n
