{"id":78878,"date":"2018-06-20T20:28:18","date_gmt":"2018-06-21T00:28:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/?p=78878"},"modified":"2018-06-20T20:28:18","modified_gmt":"2018-06-21T00:28:18","slug":"expanded-southside-hours-stand-up-paddle-boarding-with-l-l-bean-more-highlight-new-attractions-at-musikfest-2018","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/?p=78878","title":{"rendered":"Expanded SouthSide Hours, Stand-Up Paddle Boarding with L.L.Bean &#038; More Highlight New Attractions at Musikfest 2018"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>Featured Image:\u00a0<span style=\"text-align: left; color: #222222; text-transform: none; text-indent: 0px; letter-spacing: normal; font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif; font-size: 16px; font-variant: normal; text-decoration: none; word-spacing: 0px; display: inline !important; white-space: normal; orphans: 2; float: none; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; background-color: transparent;\">L.L.Bean kayaking<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>BETHLEHEM, PA\u2014Expanded hours on Bethlehem\u2019s SouthSide, L.L.Bean kayak and stand-up paddleboard courses on the Lehigh River, Architects of Air\u2019s 25<sup>th<\/sup> Anniversary Structure and an a screening of \u201cThe Song of Bethlehem\u201d documentary are among the many new highlights guests can enjoy when they attend the 35<sup>th<\/sup> Musikfest <span data-term=\"goog_1742595372\">Aug. 3-12<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>At <strong>SteelStacks<\/strong>, Musikfest will start earlier than ever before, with live music getting underway at <strong><span data-term=\"goog_1742595373\">noon<\/span> on weekends.<\/strong> The Community Stage on the Air Products Town Square will feature dynamic tributes like Sugar Mountain (Neil Young), We May Be Right (Billy Joel), Experience Janis (Janis Joplin) and Keystone (Jerry Garcia), while the BB&amp;T Jazz Cabaret Stage will start at <span data-term=\"goog_1742595374\">1 p.m.<\/span> and Martin Guitar Lyrikplatz will offer its first performances starting at <span data-term=\"goog_1742595375\">2 p.m.<\/span> Select SouthSide food vendors like Baby Blues BBQ and the Yuengling Bar &amp; Grill will also open early. With the expansion, the festival has added more than 25 additional shows to its 2018 concert lineup.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne of the most frequent requests we\u2019ve heard since we opened SteelStacks is that we should consider expanding the Musikfest hours on the festival\u2019s SouthSide,\u201d says ArtsQuest Chief Programming Officer Patrick Brogan.\u00a0 \u201cSince it\u2019s our 35<sup>th<\/sup> year, we thought this year offered the perfect opportunity to add additional programming to the campus.\u00a0 Starting at <span data-term=\"goog_1742595376\">noon<\/span> on Saturdays and Sundays, patrons will find a dynamic mix of great tribute acts, singer-songwriters and America\u2019s music, jazz.\u00a0 Two of the three venues that will open early &#8211; Martin Guitar Lyrikplatz and the BB&amp;T Jazz Cabaret Stage &#8211; are inside the air-conditioned ArtsQuest Center, so it\u2019s a great way to beat the heat and still enjoy the \u2018fest with tremendous music and food.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Also new this year,<strong> L.L.Bean <\/strong> will be onsite at Experienceplatz offering 60-minute kayak and stand-up paddleboard (SUP) courses on the Lehigh River Aug. 8-12, noon-<span data-term=\"goog_1742595377\">7 p.m.<\/span>, with shuttles to and from the Sand Island boat launch. Led by L.L.Bean\u2019s Outdoor Discovery School experts, these introductory courses are designed to teach beginners of all ages the ins and outs of paddling and kayaking, as well as the ecosystem and history of the area.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>For experienced paddlers L.L.Bean will also be renting kayak and SUP equipment for solo or group adventures. As big as half a football field, this monumental attraction offers a dazzling experience as visitors walk through a maze of winding paths and marvel at the structure\u2019s 30-foot tall domes. Designed by British artist Alan Parkinson, Architects of Air has enchanted audiences around the world since 1992, with more than 600 appearances in over 40 countries.
