FC Steel served as the title sponsor for 2018 tournament at Northampton Country Club<\/em><\/p>\n

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Penn State Lehigh Valley hosted its largest golf outing to date at its sixth annual golf tournament on Monday, June 4, 2018, at Northampton Country Club in Easton. \u00a0110 golfers participated all in<\/p>\n

support of scholarships at Penn State Lehigh Valley. The event raised enough money to endow the newly established Penn State Lehigh Valley Golf Tournament Open Doors Scholarship, which can<\/p>\n

benefit several PSU-LV students.<\/p>\n

At the dinner following the golf scramble, Rich Fatzinger, athletic director of Penn State Lehigh Valley, announced that moving forward the tournament will now be named the \u201cPenn State Lehigh Valley Howard Kulp Invitational Golf tournament,\u201d after Howard Kulp, who is a longtime donor and past PSU-LV Advisory Board Chair.<\/p>\n

“We wanted to show our appreciation and gratitude to Howard for his many years of service on our board and especially for his generosity in supporting our golf tournament and the many other initiatives on our campus. He has played a large part in the success of this tournament, which raises money for scholarships benefiting our students and we thank him for his dedication,” said Tina Q. Richardson, chancellor, Penn State Lehigh Valley.<\/p>\n

The lead sponsors of the 2018 tournament included FC Steel<\/a>, the Lehigh Valley\u2019s newest premier soccer organization, which served as the title sponsor. Alvin H. Butz, Inc.<\/a> served as the on course refreshment sponsor, and Fitzpatrick Lentz & Bubba, P.C.<\/a> served as the golf cart sponsor. The 2018 co-chairs for the tournament were Kassie Hilgert ’97 and Mike Guman ’80. Hilgert is president and CEO of ArtsQuest, one of the largest nonprofit arts organizations in Pennsylvania. Guman is a senior advisor consultant for the Eastern Pennsylvania area for OppenheimerFunds. He was a star football player for Penn State University in the 1970s, before playing for the Los Angeles Rams from 1980-1988.<\/p>\n

Both co-chairs spoke at the dinner.<\/p>\n

\u201cI used to think of Penn State as just University Park, but now since getting involved at Penn State Lehigh Valley, I realize how much the Lehigh Valley campus has going on and all of the great work going on there,\u201d said Guman.<\/p>\n

\u201cBeing a part of Penn State opens doors for you, just like it did for me,\u201d said Hilgert. \u201cThanks to everyone for coming out to support the Penn State family at Penn State Lehigh Valley!\u201d<\/p>\n

The day began with breakfast and registration at 7:00 a.m.<\/span>, followed by the shotgun start at 9:00 a.m.<\/span> The foursomes played a scramble format with Yocco\u2019s hot dogs and other refreshments offered on the course. Upon completing the round of golf, a cocktail hour was held followed by dinner and the awards program, which included a silent auction and raffle prizes.<\/p>\n

First place for Flight I went to the Boyle Construction foursome: Ed Flowerdew, Derek Zerfass, Dave Kepler, Nick Damm.\u00a0 First place for Flight II went to the IronPigs foursome: Tom Bendetti, Ryan Hines, Chris Dunham, Jr., Brian DeAngelis.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Prizes were offered for hole-in-ones at holes #4, #6, #13, and #16; closest to the pin on hole #13; the longest drive for men and the longest drive for women; a putting contest; a Pot O\u2019 Gold of $250 at hole #16; and a greenie hole on hole #4.<\/p>\n
