font-family: Calibri;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The Musikfest Caf\u00e9 rolled out another appealing concert as Tonic and Vertical Horizon performed Thursday night.\u00a0 Their official tour also included The Gin Blossoms as the headliner, and as their summer tour winds down, Tonic and Vertical Horizon decided to book some dates on their own.\u00a0 These two bands pair nicely, just as they were steak and potatoes.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">We flashed back to the 90\u2019s, in the wake of grunge music, splattered by alternative oriented songs, and found Tonic, the opening band for the evening.\u00a0 Probably best known for their smash hit, \u201cIf You Can Only See\u201d, from the \u2018Lemon Parade\u2019 album.\u00a0 Lead singer and songwriter, Emerson Hart, remarked that he couldn\u2019t believe that this record is now 22 years old.\u00a0 Time flies for a band that has kept busy over the years.\u00a0 They also included a heartfelt tribute to Tom Petty as they performed \u201cRunning Down a Dream\u201d, the audience cheered with approval.<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">After a brief intermission, Vertical Horizon took the stage.\u00a0 Whether it\u2019s your first time seeing this band or your tenth, one thing is for certain, lead singer, Matt Scannell, has a knack of getting the audience to sing along.\u00a0 In every song, there\u2019s a different arrangement in place for the audience, from breaking the room down by sections, to women competing against men.<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">It was exciting to hear that the band has recently released a new album, \u2018The Lost Mile\u2019, with two songs included in the set.\u00a0 Scannell explained the origins of \u201cTrue Illusion\u201d, by stating, \u201cI\u2019ve become very good friends with Rush, who\u2019ve encouraged us to write longer songs.\u201d Also performed was a hard driving tune, \u201cI\u2019m Going to Save You.\u201d\u00a0 And while Scannell boasts that this new album contains new sounds for the band, it seemed more like a natural evolution to revitilize Vertical Horizon\u2019s core sound, which made it more compatible to today\u2019s music.<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">The concert ended with two of the bands best known songs, \u201cYou\u2019re\u00a0 A God\u201d and \u201cEverything You Want\u201d, as the crowd sang along at the top of their lungs. \u00a0\u00a0It was a great night to relive some classic alternative music with these two bands.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Review &amp;
