King and Jayson Reynolds for fiction, Allentown native Deborah Heiligman for non-fiction, or Laurie Halse Anderson for both) that many adult readers are drawn to it. Also, on the first floor will be a section for local authors. Our Lehigh Valley Authors consignment program is growing rapidly following the recent changes in management of the Moravian Bookstore. Keep an eye out for a Local Authors Night later this fall.

The second floor will now be home to a Ju-Ju Monkey baby/toddler room, the Mariann Dana Younger Children’s Room, and a Middle Grade room (yes, Harry Potter’s closet-under-the-stairs is still here!).

The new Ju-Ju Monkey space, previously a meeting room, will showcase several wonderful product lines brought to our store by Ju-Ju Monkey founder, Sarah Moore. The new space will have a Ju-Ju Monkey theme to remember and honor the caring, supportive spirit that was such a huge part of Ju-Ju Monkey. Let’s Play Books Bookstore and friends of Ju-Ju Monkey raised funds over the summer to purchase furnishings from the Ju-Ju Monkey store, including the BIG ORANGE CHAIR, which embodies, both physically and spiritually, the community of comfort and security that Ju-Ju Monkey provided for years for so many. Let’s Play Books Bookstore will host a Donor Breakfast on the morning of our Grand Re-Opening, Saturday, September 15, at 9am, to recognize those who supported the effort and to thank Sarah Moore for her contributions to the community.

We have also spruced up our 3rd-floor Cattic a bit, and the Fall will see further updates to this event space. The Cattic is the site of many author visits, birthday parties, and summer camp sessions. It is also home to our youth book clubs, which have grown tremendously this past year.

The changes at Let’s Play Books are aimed at expanding what we offer adults while improving products and services for children, historically our core mission. As a growing general interest independent bookstore in the Lehigh Valley, we felt the need to increase our services to the community. We will continue to offer book fairs in area schools, fund-raising events for local organizations and our Authors-to-Schools program. At Let’s Play Books Bookstore, we strive to engage children and adults in the wonderful world of books, providing never-ending opportunities to stir one’s imagination and creativity, to enhance one’s understanding of our world. We are committed to promoting the values of knowledge, compassion, and social justice, all of which to serve to make our community a better place to live and work.

Upcoming Events with Let’s Play Books Bookstore:

Thursday, Sept. 12, 6pm, at the Emmaus Public Library
Illustrator Kim Smith will share her new picture book, Buffy the Vampire Slayer (Quirk Books).

Thursday, Sept. 20, 6:30pm, at Let’s Play Books Bookstore
Devon Taylor, a Lehigh Valley resident, will discuss his debut novel, The Soul Keepers (Swoon Reads).

Thursday, Oct. 18, 5pm, at Let’s Play Books Bookstore
Illustrator Kate Garchinsky will share her new non-fiction picture book,
The Secret Life of the Little Brown Bat (Boyds Mill Press).

Sunday, Oct. 21, 4-6pm, at Let’s Play Books Bookstore
The Great American Read Open House with K’s Book Club

Oct. 13 &
