{"id":8211,"date":"2015-09-02T15:01:02","date_gmt":"2015-09-02T19:01:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/?p=8211"},"modified":"2015-11-17T10:09:46","modified_gmt":"2015-11-17T15:09:46","slug":"httpwww-thevalleyledger-comp1904-96","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/?p=8211","title":{"rendered":"CITY HOSTING \u201cALLENTOWN LIGHTS\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-9851 size-large\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Allentown-Lights-Overall-Flyer-614x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Allentown Lights Overall Flyer\" width=\"614\" height=\"1024\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Allentown-Lights-Overall-Flyer-614x1024.jpg 614w, https:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Allentown-Lights-Overall-Flyer-180x300.jpg 180w, https:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Allentown-Lights-Overall-Flyer.jpg 675w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 614px) 100vw, 614px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Allentown will welcome holiday season visitors to the city with \u201cAllentown Lights\u201d events from November 28 \u2013 December 31, 2015.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAllentown Lights\u201d will feature light decorations and displays at key locations throughout the city.\u00a0 It replaces the popular \u201cLights in the Parkway\u201d event for the 2015 season.\u00a0 Repairs being made to a retaining wall in Lehigh Parkway will make it impossible for two-lane traffic to enter the parkway safely for viewing the annual light show.<\/p>\n<p>At no charge, \u201cAllentown Lights\u201d will cover Hamilton Street from 10th to Sixth streets, the Arts Park, the Arts Walk, Cedar Beach Park, and Andre Reed Park.\u00a0 In addition to festive decorations, \u201cAllentown Lights\u201d will feature a myriad of family-friendly events and programs throughout the holiday season, including beloved holiday movies, concerts, holiday vendors, youth activities, delicious food and beverage items and more!<\/p>\n<p>The City of Allentown\u2019s Parks Department is the creative talent behind \u201cLights in the Parkway\u201d each year.\u00a0 Parks supervisor Jason Hertz and his crew are utilizing their lighting expertise to adapt the displays to alternative locations to truly make Allentown electric this holiday season!<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMany families make a visit \u201cLights in the Parkway\u201d a must during the holidays,\u201d said Mayor Ed Pawlowski.\u00a0 \u201cI encourage all families to come out, park the car and enjoy a walk along this exciting take-off on the traditional event.\u00a0 I know they\u2019ll be thrilled by all that Allentown has to offer!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Families will be able to come and ice skate for free at the city\u2019s two synthetic ice skating rinks which will be set-up at Cedar Beach Park and Andre Reed Park.\u00a0 On site skate rentals will be available during peak hours.<\/p>\n<p>In continuing the tradition of the 6<sup>th<\/sup> Annual Lights in the Parkway 5K &amp; Walk, the city will again partner with Run Lehigh Valley to offer this unique opportunity to enjoy the displays.\u00a0 The course will be set-up in the area surrounding Cedar Beach Park, and the event will take place on Wednesday, November 25 beginning at 7pm for runners with the walkers following.\u00a0 Interested persons can register at <u><a href=\"http:\/\/www.runlehighvalley.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/www.runlehighvalley.com\/<\/a><\/u>.\u00a0 Space is limited, and no race-day registration is available, so reserve your spot today!<\/p>\n<p>The City of Allentown Department of Parks &amp; Recreation seeks to partner with local organizations to showcase all of the holiday events happening throughout the city in 2015.<\/p>\n<p>The City of Allentown continues to commit to using energy-efficient LED lights in all new displays, and will convert many of the existing displays to LED for the 2015 season.
