The City of Allentown celebrates the kick-off of Hispanic Heritage Month on Wednesday, September 26 from 5:00pm-8:00pm in City Hall.<\/p>\n
Attendees can enjoy free food, singing and dance performances and live music.\u00a0 They can also view surrealist pieces of renowned artist Rigo Peralta.\u00a0 Peralta is a native of the Dominican Republic who emigrated to New York City in 1989 and now lives in Bethlehem.<\/p>\n
The event is sponsored by the City of Allentown, Councilperson Dr. Cynthia Mota and Saradanga Latin Bistro.<\/p>\n
Performances will feature local folkloric dance groups, mariachi band, and various music styles, including merengue and salsa.<\/p>\n
Lehigh Carbon Community College\u2019s Donley Center in downtown Allentown at 718 Hamilton Street will host a pair of Hispanic Heritage Month events.<\/p>\n
The college\u2019s Student Life Office and the LCCC Student Government Association are sponsoring Salsa Dance & Latin Culture with Tabitha Hitchye on Tuesday, September 25 at 6:00pm.\u00a0 Hitchye is the business director\/instructor of Sentimiento Dance Company and studio director of Dance & Artistic Expressions Studio in Baltimore.<\/p>\n
On Wednesday, October 10 at 1:00pm and Thursday, October 11 at 6:30pm, the college will present a lecture by Dr. Erika Sutherland, Muhlenberg College Associate Professor of Spanish and Director of the Grupo de Apoyo e Integraci\u00f3n Hispanoamericano, a Hispanic immigrants support group.\u00a0 Dr. Sutherland\u2019s lecture topic is “Immigration Today and\u00a0Tomorrow: Education and Immigrant Youth.\u201d<\/p>\n
