EASTON, Pa. (Oct. 23, 2018)<\/strong> \u2014 Amazon today hosted Secretary Dennis Davin of the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) and community leaders in a special ceremony and behind-the-scenes tour of its fulfillment center in Palmer Township.<\/p>\n

The tour showcased how the 1.1 million square-foot fulfillment center operates. Guests observed associates pick, pack and ship larger-sized customer items, such as sports equipment, musical instruments and furniture.<\/p>\n

The tour highlighted Amazon\u2019s job creation and economic impact across the Lehigh Valley and the state. It also detailed the company\u2019s innovative Career Choice program, which pre-pays 95 percent of tuition for employees to go back to school in fields that are in high-demand, regardless of whether those skills are relevant to jobs at Amazon. The event also offered Amazon an opportunity to thank the community for its ongoing support.<\/p>\n

“We are thrilled to be a member of the Easton community, where our investments in the Lehigh Valley have contributed over $350 million into the local economy in the last year alone,\u201d said Amazon’s Scott Cochran, general manager of the fulfillment center. \u201cSince we first launched operations in Pennsylvania in 2008, we\u2019ve grown our fulfillment workforce in the state to more than 10,000 full-time employees, 3,400 of which are in the Lehigh Valley.\u00a0We\u2019re proud to call Pennsylvania home and we\u2019re thankful for the support we\u2019ve received from city, county, state and community leaders.\u201d<\/p>\n
