The \u2018piano vocal\u2019 team PEAR DUO will be at Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Arts in Bethlehem PA on\u00a0November 27th, 2018<\/span><\/span>\u00a0for one of their acclaimed workshops, \u2018The Business of Music.\u2019<\/p>\n Curtis Brengle (piano) and Julie Ragins (vocals) have been entrenched in the music scene in Los Angeles for nearly three decades, touring, recording, and performing with a myriad of jazz, rock, and pop icons.\u00a0 They bring a breadth of experience to their workshop that can give participants an enormous advantage when heading out into the music industry.<\/p>\n \u201cThink of this as a crash course in music entrepreneurship,\u201d says Brengle. \u00a0\u201cAll the stuff we had to learn the hard way over decades, you can get\u00a0in two hours<\/span><\/span>.\u201d<\/p>\n It doesn\u2019t matter if you want to be a working commercial musician or the next pop superstar, the strategies shared in this masterclass apply.\u00a0 Social media had forever changed the way we find everything from a wedding band to a bass player for an original project, and video truly has killed the radio star!\u00a0 So if you think just being the best musician will get you where you want to go, you might want to think again.\u00a0 Finding your way in today\u2019s music scene requires business acumen as well as talent.<\/p>\n The workshop curriculum focuses on several key points. \u00a01- Identifying who you are and what your goals are. \u00a02- Recognizing and creating opportunities. \u00a03- Strategies for branding, marketing, and exposure. \u00a04- The new resume. \u00a05- Musicianship skills to get and keep a gig (including the \u201ctop 20 ways to lose a gig\u201d).\u00a0 Brengle and Ragins bring a rare perspective and have an open approach.\u00a0 Says Ragins, \u00a0\u201cWe have witnessed the industry change dramatically over the last 28 years.\u00a0 So many young, talented musicians hit the music scene without a clue as to how to find their way.\u00a0 We can show them what we know so they don\u2019t have to start from scratch.\u201d<\/p>\n In the treacherous waters of the music biz, there is no substitute for real world experience.\u00a0 That, this duo has in spades.<\/p>\n The Business of Music Workshop is open to the public.
