{"id":84118,"date":"2018-11-17T14:49:45","date_gmt":"2018-11-17T19:49:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/?p=84118"},"modified":"2018-11-17T14:49:45","modified_gmt":"2018-11-17T19:49:45","slug":"state-awards-300000-grant-for-skate-park","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/?p=84118","title":{"rendered":"STATE AWARDS $300,000 GRANT FOR SKATE PARK"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The City of Allentown\u2019s plans for a skate park at Jordan Park are getting a financial boost from the state.<\/p>\n<p>The city is receiving a $300,000 matching grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation &amp; Natural Resources (DCNR).\u00a0 It is part of $50 million for 280 projects across the state announced yesterday by Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf.<\/p>\n<p>The grants are administered by the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. Funding comes from:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Keystone Fund, which is generated from a portion of the realty transfer tax;<\/li>\n<li>The Environmental Stewardship Fund;<\/li>\n<li>The ATV\/Snowmobile Fund generated through fees for licenses;<\/li>\n<li>Federal monies including the Land and Water Conservation Fund.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>According to the governor, \u201cMany of the projects being funded\u00a0&#8212; improvements to local parks, trails, and river access\u00a0&#8212; bring opportunities for outdoor recreation closer to home, and are the features that help attract families, visitors, and businesses that provide jobs to communities.\u00a0 This $50 million in grants will support communities throughout Pennsylvania working to protect and improve natural amenities for our citizens.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want to thank Governor Wolf and the department for approving our grant application,\u201d Mayor Ray O\u2019Connell said.\u00a0 \u201cThe skate park is a perfect addition to the 15 exercise stations installed in the park just two years ago.\u00a0 Jordan Park will be serving residents of all ages.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDesigns for the skate park at the site of the former clay tennis courts were completed using community input,\u201d said Allentown Department of Parks &amp; Recreation Director Karen El-Chaar.\u00a0 \u201cI know city youth are going to love it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Work will include construction of an ADA accessible skate park, pedestrian walkways, stormwater management measures, landscaping and other site improvements.\u00a0 Fencing and signage will also be installed.<\/p>\n<p>Design for the skate park is being done by Grindline Skateparks of Seattle, WA.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; The City of Allentown\u2019s plans for a skate park at Jordan Park are getting a financial boost from the state.
