Hamilton Street, Allentown, has even more to celebrate than usual this year at their annual Patriot\u2019s Sunday service. Held each year on Memorial Day weekend to commemorate our local militia\u2019s endorsement of the Declaration of Independence from Great Britain in 1776, this year\u2019s emphasis will be on the \u201clittle liberty bell\u201d that called the Patriots to action.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_88515\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-88515\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.libertybellchurch.org\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-88515 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Allentown-Liberty-Bell-1-300x241.jpg\" alt=\" Allentown Liberty Bell\" width=\"300\" height=\"241\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Allentown-Liberty-Bell-1-300x241.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Allentown-Liberty-Bell-1.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-88515\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Allentown Liberty Bell<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Cast in 1769 and hung above the church doors, the \u201clittle liberty bell\u201d has its own story, told in a 250th anniversary exhibit at the Liberty Bell Museum, located in the lower level of the church building.<\/p>\n<p>The 10:45 a.m. worship service includes \u201cliving historians\u201d from the 6TH PA Regiment, men and women wearing authentic garb from the Colonial period who tell the story of that era. Following the service the Regiment will load and fire their muskets to salute the Patriots being remembered Memorial Day weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Guests from the Valley Forge Chapter of the Pennsylvania Society of the Sons of the American Revolution will also be in attendance.<\/p>\n<p>The public is invited. They also rang it to assemble everyone from the community whenever there was important news to share, notably for the public reading of the Declaration of Independence in Allentown sometime in July, 1776.<\/p>\n<p>Then in 1820, after the church invested in a larger bell, the Allentown Liberty Bell was moved to ring at the Allentown Academy, one of the early schools to receive funding from the Pennsylvania State Legislature.
