ALLENTOWN, PA\u00ad\u00ad<\/strong>\u2014October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month and on Wednesday, October 14, 2015, the Lehigh Valley Center for Independent Living (LVCIL) will host a wine and cheese tasting and informational session entitled \u201cHiring People with Disabilities\u201d in conjunction with the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce. The event will take place at the Best Western on Routes 512 & 22 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Guests will learn about the benefits of hiring people with disabilities, assistance offered to employers, and support programs such as LVCIL\u2019s Career Path.<\/p>\n

Amy Beck, LVCIL Executive Director, and Dr. Scott Berman, LVCIL Board of Directors President, will preside at the event and share their expertise and knowledge about fostering a disability-friendly community. Damon Kimble, Regional Operations Director of the Lehigh Valley Restaurant Group, is the guest speaker. Damon has over 15 years of experience in restaurant management and will address best practices in, and the advantages and benefits of hiring people with disabilities.<\/p>\n

Doors open at 5:00 pm with light hors d\u2019oeuvres and a selection of fine wines. LVCIL suggests a $25 donation for non-Chamber members and $20 for Chamber members. All net proceeds will benefit LVCIL\u2019s programs and services.<\/p>\n

The wine and cheese tasting and informational session continues the celebratory events this year as LVCIL commemorates its 25th<\/sup> anniversary. Founded in 1990, LVCIL strives to ensure that people with all types of disabilities have the resources and support needed to achieve independence in an inclusive community. LVCIL serves people with disabilities, and their family members, residing in Lehigh and Northampton Counties.<\/p>\n

Lehigh Valley Center for Independent Living <\/a>(LVCIL)<\/strong> is a nonprofit organization based in Allentown, Pennsylvania. As the only cross-disability organization of its kind in the area, LVCIL is dedicated to empowering individuals with disabilities and promoting the full inclusion of persons with disabilities in all aspects of life.<\/p>\n

LVCIL provides services for its consumers such as information and referral, peer support, independent living skills, and individual and systems advocacy.
