{"id":93396,"date":"2019-07-09T18:51:27","date_gmt":"2019-07-09T22:51:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/?p=93396"},"modified":"2019-07-09T18:51:27","modified_gmt":"2019-07-09T22:51:27","slug":"hector-rosado-performs-at-west-park","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/?p=93396","title":{"rendered":"HECTOR ROSADO PERFORMS AT WEST PARK"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Hector Rosado and his orchestra \u201cHache\u201d will perform as part of the Allentown Department of Parks &amp; Recreation\u2019s 2019 Saturday in the Park concert series at historic West Park on Saturday, July 13 from 7:00pm to 8:30pm.\u00a0 West Park is located between 15<sup>th<\/sup> and 16<sup>th <\/sup>Street between Linden and Turner streets.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Hector Rosado is an internationally acclaimed percussionist, bandleader, arranger, educator and recording artist. He has performed and toured with many notable performers in the world of Latin music, including his salsa band \u201cHector Rosado y Orchestra Hache\u201d which he founded in 2001. Broadening his scope to the world of Latin Jazz, he created his \u201cHector Rosado Latin Jazz Ensemble Siete\u201d group in 2008.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Starting his life in the Steel City, Hector is one of five sons of Puerto Rican immigrants raised on the south side of Bethlehem. He was inspired by a neighborhood Motown Band when he first started playing congas. His mother encouraged him at age 10 by taking him by bus to purchase his first conga in the Bronx. By age 16, he sought his own apprenticeship in NYC seeking out the master Eddie Montalgo as his mentor. Soon after, Hector was opening-up shows for Ray Barretto, his hero. In total, Hector\u2019s career spans nearly four decades.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, Hector spends his time playing music in the Lehigh Valley, Philadelphia, New Jersey and New York.<\/p>\n<p>A respected educator, Hector taught at Community Music School in Allentown, in<\/p>\n<p>elementary schools, and for the past eight years, has directed a Latin Music Clinic. This unique clinic is an outreach to teach adult singers and instrumentalists the elements of Latin salsa music.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEl Batey\u201d is the opening dance group that will be performing at 6:15pm.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In 2011\u00a0Flor Velez, director and choreographer, started the dance group\u00a0with the name Puertorrican Culture Preservation Dance Group. Joaqu\u00edn Nieves, professional choreographer and director of folkloric dance\u00a0of the Guateque Group of Puerto Rico, came to Allentown to help PRCP organize and give a workshop to teach different Puerto Rican rhythms.<\/p>\n<p>The Puerto Rican Dance Culture preservation group has performed at difference events in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York. In 2016, the name was changed to &#8220;El Batey&#8221; (this is the place where our ancestor celebrated his celebrations dancing and playing music.)
