Counter Culture, the talk show in a diner, will return for a second season beginning at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, September 3.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Bethlehem, PA. – August 26, 2019<\/strong> – The second season of <\/span>PBS39\u2019s Emmy-nominated talk show Counter Culture<\/em><\/a> will premiere at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, September 3, 2019. This weekly half-hour show is hosted by PBS39\u2019s Grover Silcox and set at the counter of DaddyPops Diner on Main Street in Hatboro, Pennsylvania.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201c<\/span>Counter Culture<\/em> has given us an opportunity to take our production crew out of the studio and into the heart of our community,\u201d Tim Fallon, Chief Executive Officer of PBS39 said. \u201cDiners are a hub of activity in neighborhoods across the Greater Lehigh Valley. It has been an honor to capture some of those authentic moments on camera.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

On the premiere episode of season two, Silcox will welcome three new guests. Dr. Manish Garg, an emergency room doctor at Temple University Hospital, will share his personal story of pain, joy and transformation as a physician and a human being. Sylva Senat, the executive chef at the Pyramid Club in Philadelphia, will also join Grover at the counter to chat about the challenges of competing on Bravo\u2019s television series <\/span>Top Chef<\/em>. Author and elder care attorney, Cathy Sikorski will have a little fun while getting serious about wills, advance directives, nursing home care and other important topics.<\/span><\/p>\n

Other guests coming up in season two will include: a retired FBI agent who now writes crime novels, a comic who impressed Simon Cowell on <\/span>America\u2019s Got Talent<\/em>, the CEO of C.F. Martin & Co., the author of the book <\/span>Sleep Paralysis<\/em>, an award-winning singer\/songwriter and many, many more!<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m excited to meet the mix of authors, musicians, comics, culinary experts, media personalities, scientists, celebrities and other guests who will be joining me this season,\u201d Silcox said. \u201cYou never know who you\u2019ll meet at the counter in beautiful downtown Hatboro, so pull up a seat and join the conversation!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

For more than thirty years, Silcox has entertained viewers and listeners throughout the Philadelphia region. Whether it was in his Emmy-award winning segment about scrapple, or his five-minute in-depth report on the boy who could solve a Rubik\u2019s Cube puzzle with his toes, Silcox has always had the gift of whimsy.<\/span><\/p>\n

Since joining the team at PBS39 in 2006, Silcox has continued to enhance his track record of producing excellent and entertaining feature reports. During his tenure as the host of PBS39\u2019s <\/span>Let\u2019s Go!<\/a><\/em>Silcox produced feature reports on attractions and activities in and around eastern Pennsylvania and western New Jersey. He has also used much of his time in public media to document local and world history. He has become an expert on the history of Bethlehem Steel and produced several feature-length history programs including <\/span>Philly Firsts<\/em>, <\/span>Bringing New Life to Old Steel<\/em>, <\/span>Wyomissing: An American Dream<\/em> and <\/span>World War 2: Pennsylvania Patriots<\/em>. Silcox was the last reporter to interview \u201cWild Bill\u201d Guarnere before the Band of Brothers soldier\u2019s death in 2014. His work documenting the story of a Nuremberg Trials interpreter earned him an Emmy-award nomination in 2016. His documentary <\/span>Wyomissing: An American Dream<\/em> was recognized with a national public media award from the National Educational Telecommunications Association. In September, Silcox will be inducted into the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences <\/span>Mid-Atlantic Chapter’s Silver Circle Society<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Prior to coming to PBS39, Silcox served as a feature reporter on FOX29\u2019s Good Day Philadelphia and as an on-air morning radio personality on 103.9 WMGK and 93.3 WMMR in Philadelphia. For more than 20 years, he produced comedy shows for television networks, including: HBO, NBC, CBS, the Nashville Network and Comcast. The three-time Emmy Award winner is a graduate of Temple University and currently lives in Montgomery County. In addition to his long-time work in media, he continues to perform as a stand-up comedian and the presenter of a one-man show featuring the works of Edgar Allan Poe.<\/span><\/p>\n
