Journalist Brittany Sweeney will work with Alvernia University communications students during the fall and spring semesters.<\/strong>

\nBethlehem, PA. – September 4, 2019<\/strong> – PBS39 Reporter Brittany Sweeney will serve as an \u201cexpert in residence\u201d with the communications program at <\/span>Alvernia University<\/a> during the 2019-20 academic year.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt is important to educate the next generation of professionals in our industry,\u201d Tim Fallon, Chief Executive Officer of PBS39 said. \u201cWe are proud to support Brittany in this important partnership with Alvernia University and we will continue to build relationships with institutions of higher learning in our community.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

This program gives students an opportunity to gain real-world experience and perspective. Sweeney will be working with select students and staff on a variety of projects. She will also play a vital role in two educational events in both the fall and spring semesters. There will also be opportunities for select students to shadow Sweeney.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI would not be where I am today without the help and guidance of others throughout my career,\u201d Sweeney said. \u201cThe field of communications is constantly changing. I am excited to share my experiences while also learning from the students.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Brittany Sweeney is passionate about telling stories in her home state of Pennsylvania. She currently serves as the <\/span>Berks County<\/a> reporter for <\/span>PBS39 News Tonight<\/a>. During her time at PBS39, Sweeney has also anchored live newscasts. She recently earned a <\/span>Mid-Atlantic Regional Emmy\u00ae Award nomination<\/a> for her role in PBS39\u2019s live coverage of the <\/span>116th Congress<\/a> swearing-in. Sweeney grew up in the Philadelphia area and graduated from Temple University.<\/span>

This initiative uses public media’s combined resources of TV, radio, online, social, digital, and community outreach events for one common good – to save lives.
