{"id":95934,"date":"2019-10-10T22:13:43","date_gmt":"2019-10-11T02:13:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/?p=95934"},"modified":"2019-10-10T22:50:59","modified_gmt":"2019-10-11T02:50:59","slug":"valley-youth-house-awarded-over-1-6-million-from-department-of-health-and-human-services-administration-for-children-and-families","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thevalleyledger.com\/?p=95934","title":{"rendered":"VALLEY YOUTH HOUSE AWARDED OVER $1.6 MILLION FROM DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES ADMINISTRATION FOR CHILDREN AND FAMILIES"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>BETHLEHEM, PA (10\/10\/19) &#8211; Valley Youth House was recently awarded a total of over $1.6 million through the federal Department of Health and Human Services Administration for Children and Families, which underwrites the agency\u2019s housing and street outreach programs in 9 counties across Pennsylvania: Bucks, Lehigh, Northampton, Dauphin, Philadelphia, Armstrong, Indiana, Washington, &amp; Westmoreland counties.<\/p>\n<p>With this funding, Valley Youth House expects to provide emergency shelter for over 300 children and youth ages 12-17; emergency supplies, counseling and support for 700 homeless youth under age 21; and transitional housing to 20 homeless young people ages 16-21. The grants also provide expansion of the agency\u2019s Host Home model in Western PA, the first of its kind in the state, where volunteer host families provide temporary housing for young people unable to remain with their birth families.<\/p>\n<p>Agency-wide last year, nearly 600 children and youth were provided with supportive housing and another 1,900 youth preparing to exit foster care were provided with life skills, education and employment support to ensure successful transition to self-sufficiency and stable housing as young adults.<\/p>\n<p><strong>About Valley Youth House<\/strong><br \/>\nValley Youth House (valleyyouthhouse.org ) does more than just provide homes for Pennsylvania\u2019s vulnerable, abused, and homeless youth.
